Food still a resource?

Hi!

is food still a resource (shwon in the toolbar?)
and if not, how do you know how many troops you can recruit, if you dont know how much food you have left for your troops?
... cause as i know your troops will not fight without food.

thank you frank, i only dindt get the clue, but thanks to elewyns post and the link i found out that it must be a local resource
