View Full Version : Multiplay compatibility
Will the multiplay be compatible between the different versions? With 1602 you had to have the same version of the game as the other player, i.e. if you had the US version you could not MP someone with the German version. I hope we will be able to play MP regardless which version the other player has.

That's the good point!
Synchronization will allow us to make international ladders and tournaments.

OThis is a game of the 16th & 17th centuries after all. It's not highly marketable in America. Our kids want to steal cars, shoot, slash, burn and otherwise desecrate everything but the flag and the Marine Corps. (sarcasm)
Really?
I heard about a big tournament (in 2003?) connected with American Conquest premier - "old world" players vs "new world" players and as a matter of a fact I thought that RTS placed in this period are popular.
But on the other hand - you live on Colorado so there are 49 (or even 50  ) states left which gives more than 288 people - it's market comparable to western part of Europe.

I am not sure about the U.S. and the Anno player community in general, but I believe there is a good share of europeans speaking English fluently - or at least well enough to play Anno.

Yep.
I really don't know a single person who doesn't speak english at least moderately well.

I'm not quite sure why a todays game should have any inter-language Problems. It's "just" neccessary to strictly seperate the game code and language-dependend content, so there won't be code-version differences between language-versions. So i don't see any problems concerning this...
But an option to change the games language settings without any effort would be important. Because even if i could speak english as fluently as german i wouldn't feel comfortable listening to a german game vocabulary while speaking to english players or after installing a english version playing with my friends... all this ongoing translations will disturb the atmosphere...

I play the German version of 1602 all the time. I do not speak or read German. I did get confused a bit when I first played it but I adapted and have played multiplayer in it.
How many people would play between language versions? I remember quite a few on the old 1602 board. Some from other countries in Europe and some from the US. A bigger problem in multi is the time difference for those of us in the Americas and those in Europe. I am at work when it is evening in Europe.

I think it wont be any problem to have different languages, in Anno1503 it was also just a difference in text and voices. That has nothing to do with the .exe version or anything.
I cant wait for this game, i surely hope anno1602 will come to live again in this game, surely 1503 wasnt good enough for me.
Agreed on simpelekees. Why would there be any language problem evolving around multiplayer. They might add some "language" area's where people from a particular language can meat. People can simply keep their game language.
There will be problems on the versions. Some bugs, errors or exploits need to be fixed and they are without a doubt a version. I see no reason why Anno 1701 would allow people with an early version of the game. You simply need to patch what needs to be patch.
In past Anno releases there have been differences in the mechanics of the game from version to version. With 1602, there was absolutely no way for someone with the German version to connect with someone running the English version. In 1503, there were 1 or 2 files between the German and the English versions that were different, Annokrat and I figured out which files these were and with swapping out the files, we were able to connect and play, but there were terrible asyncs because of the distance.

i never played 1503 multiplayer because they never brought it to the dutch. I guess if there will be multiplayer they should spend great time in it.

They never brought it to anybody! But the file that opened the option was still in the first German release(was removed from later releases because of the instability of the MP). I acquired that file from a friend and we were able to play shirt period of time before asyncs got to frequent.
