Hey people!

I've been playing Anno 1602 (the dutch version) since 1999 I believe, and I've never had any problems, at all. But I've recently downloaded a map creator, from the English version. I was thrilled, made a map with a few huge islands and a lot of smaller ones so I could create the largest city I've ever built. It took me a while, but eventually I got a city with 30.000 Aristocrats, which was my goal. Supplying them with food is no problem, since most of my islands are surrounded with sufficient fisher lodges. All other resources weren't a problem, until, recently, I was ready to take the next big step in my city's evolution: from 20.000 villagers to 30.000.
I built hundreds of new tobacco-, wine-, grain-, cocoa-, herbs- and cottonfarms, enough to supply the extra 10.000 inhabitants to come. Now something weird happened; I plant all of the grain etc and at first, there's no true problem. Everything goes the way it's supposed to go; trade carts ride out the way they should, my ships do what they have to do, the farms regrow the way they should.
But after a while, much of the cotton, grain, cocoa and other crops STOP growing back. They all of a sudden stopped growing; I only noticed this when I saw the production in many farms was only 20-60% where it ought to be 90-95%. I saw the crops stayed on the same 'level' of growth.
I wondered if it would be better if I restarted the game, or replanted all the crops. None of that helps...

I'd post a screenshot if I could, but it only gives a blurry black screen when I try to paste it in paint, not a real in-game shot.

Thanks for the help already!

You're not the only one who has experienced this problem. I have seen where other players have had problems with very large cities and very many plantations...

I don't remember if there is a solution. If you don't want to wait for a better answer, then maybe you could search the board...

The programmers just never designed the game for that sheer amount of farms and thus you get an error. You might try reducing the amount of plantations below the level that caused the problem, but I'm unsure wether that will get rid of the problem or wether the problem will persist.

Ah, thx guys! I'm not that unpatient, I'll search the forum a bit and try to look for answers. Oh and reducing the amount of farms wouldn't help really; there's only a few farms that have this problems (about 10%) and I assume that means that I went 10% of the cap of the game.
Pity because my island group can theoretically take care for about 15.000 more aristo's on another island. Oh well, my personal delusions of grandeur

The problem kinda is that 95% of the topics are in German, I do speak a little German since I'm Belgian, but it's not as easy as an English topic of course

Welcome to the board Turgon:go:
The problem is when the GAM file gets bigger than 2,000KB things tend to get glitchy.
You don't have to search far, just scroll down on this page to the "Attention 1602 city builders" thread. One other thing that contributes to production problems is the fact that most super size islands, (larger than 100X100), tend to be a problem. I don't remember where I read it but several years back there was a thread that mentioned the maximum number of "successful" plantations on any island is 88. You're better off using the "original" islands that come with the basic game, just work at jamming as many of the largest ones on your map as you can.
As you will see in my "Ultra City" scenario, I used five of the excellent "Shipwreck" islands designed by Dobber about a year or so ago.

Yeah, I've seen you scenario, nicely done! That centre island is the biggest I've ever seen. But the islands I work with are not too big; the biggest one is my city island and it's completely full, only houses and the necessary buildings (i.e. churches, markets...) and I 'only' have a little over 30.000 inhabitants. The game is 1560kb so I guess 1.5Mb must be around the limit for my Anno 1602 version. A pity, I really wanted to enlarge my score by making a second island with around 15.000 inhabitants. A grand total of 45.000 aristocrats would be nice, not? :)

Very Nice Indeed!!!
Could you zip your savegame and e-mail it to me please?

Oh darn, I'm currently not in the city where I study and where the game file is. Actually I currently should be in a tent on a festival, I just quickly returned home to get some stuff, meanwhile checking internet :)
All right, off I go again, I'll send the file as soon as I'll be back in Leuven (=the file city ;))

I've sent it :)

Another problem: I have 25.000 aristos and I've just seen that that is the max number of inhabitants. If I place another house, it says it has 0 settlers that are displeased because there's no market, even though there actually is one.
Another bug...
