Hey, I’m still new to this game, but have yet to encounter a problem like this, for any games that I’ve played on my computer for that matter.
Currently, at this moment in time – if I try to run the game it pops up a message saying
"Conflict: a hook process was found. Please Deactivate all antivirus and anti-Trojan programs and debuggers"
Odd part being this is only happing with this game, “Knights of Honor”, where as everything else runs fine.
-Some background-
I’ve been playing the game for some time now, perhaps roughly 2 weeks, and nothing like this has happened.
Before this incident, I was updating my spy ware, and antivirus programs, however, all I did was reinstall new updates, I never went in and reset new configurations.
Thinking the problem was with them running security checks with out my notice, I went through and opened each one up, closed any possible running programs/check-ups they had going and successfully closed/shut them down.
However I still get the same message – yet it only effects Knights of Honor is what leads me to believe perhaps the problem is connected more to the game as well.
Could you give me some feed back as to how I can pin-point the problem and fix it? – thanks in advance for your help.
Edit:
I’ve notice another link up with the same problem,
http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?t=6635
although, must I go to such heights as getting a “hack” or a way to disable the games protection fields to play a game a legally bought? I’d rather do it legit-ly and not have to risk doing something wrong for a problem within the protection rules of the game – that are ironically preventing me form playing it.

 hmm strange problem.
Have you tried playing koh when you had put your spyware and norton offline ?

By “off-line” I suppose you mean turned off, completely shut down – and yes, I have.
Doesn’t make any sense how a spy ware, or anti virus would tamper with playing a game, makes you wonder what kind of protection rights KoH has compared to all the other games…because “every-single-other-game” I have runs fine.
Another puzzling feature is the fact that I had spy doctors - antivirus and spy ware “before” installing the game, wasn’t till late that I “scan’d/Updated” them and it triggered this problem.
Something with in KoH must of been considered spy ware or a virus is what I’m guessing…doesn’t that clue you into asking if they had something with-in the game breaking a private policy? Why else would the spy ware/antivirus mess with it?
At the moment I haven’t the time, but next chance I get, I plan to uninstall and re-install the game, if it works…then it leads me to believe something with-in the game bugs the spyware/antivirus scanners. How-ever, that’s pretty lame that I’d have to reinstall the game every time I consider using my Spyware/antivirus programs.

Welcome to the forum, BnetGamer77! :halloha:
Actually the situation is quite the opposite to what you believe. Knights of Honor's copy protection scans itself to see wether any program is trying to fiddle with it's private memory, like, f.e., a noCD crack would do to make KoH believe that there was an original CD in the drive. Your anti-spyware or virussoftware on the other hand searches through other program's private memory to search for possible dangers to the system. KoH detects this and is lead to believe that a crack tries to manipulate the copy protection system. That is why Knights of Honor showed the message you saw.
It is a popular problem that anti-spyware programs and virusscanners do not stop their investigations when they are disabled by the user. They merely stop performing any counteractions if they find a threat. As far as I know common virusscanners like Norton products have this behaviour (which is, by the way, one of the reasons for Norton products to be so unpopular).
You might try disabling the service of the virus-/spywarescanner and stopping the executable of the software in question via the task manager.
The conclusion is that the Knights of Honor copy protection is incompatible with the current practice of common virus- and spywarescanners.

Well, I suppose that makes since. Although, still puts a bad taste in my mouth. Because now I have to be forced to choose between a antivirus/spy ware over one game?
Although, they might not be the most 100% privacy-obedient, they help my computer a lot more then one game…so I’m ether forced to take care of the Norton programs, or stop playing KoH?
By the way…When I have my Task manager open, it’s hard to sniff out what each code means, I’d rather not tamper with trying to close something/delete it when I’m un-aware of what the code means. So unless there is a way to find out what code is linked to the Norton product(s), I’m not going to mess with anything that could harm my computer…over one game :nono:
What does a jowood boycott have to do with KoH?
Dont open that link, it's advertisment, and I think has virus in it.
Angryminer needs to practice deleting posts, he's pretty bad at it right now.
edit: he did it here, too. http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?p=159807#post159807
I think I may have found a common issue between "BnetGamer77" 's and "ender101" 's problems starting up the game. It appears both are using Spy Doctor anti-spyware. Spy Doctor could be what is causing the problem.

I ran into the same issue, and found a hack to resolve it, which I've been reminded I can't share. :ban:
However I'm not suprised if it was Spyware Doctor, very aggresive application. Saved my many times for bad links or bad code on a webpage. In this case the downside is it stomp on a really good game. :bawling:

I have found the pain of a program that has been causing my Hook Program Errors. I have the following installed on my machine: Pest Patrol, Trend Micro PC-Cillin, & Spyware Doctor & KOH seemed to run just fine. Then one day I got that stupid hook error once again & it stumped me why it had reappeared out of no where. I then realized I had recently used Windows Update & found the culprit. The windows malicious spyware removal tool seems to be the cause of all my headaches, I have not been able to find a way to uninstall it but for future reformats I must remind myself NOT to install this update!

Thanks for finding and posting that, UlrichHacke! :go:
Hopefully someone can look into this and see wether this also happens on other computers.
(My computer is a win2k SP4 without further updates, so I was never affected by that removal tool.)
