View Full Version : ANNO 1602 crashes on Win XP
Ok, I got a question.
I have been searching these forums for the answer but I couldn't find it, so I made an account and a new thread.
I have the Dutch Anno 1602 Gold Edition. Installation is no problem for me. But after about 30 mins of playing, the game crashes and all my progress since the last saving is lost. I could just keep saving every 5 mins, but I prefer it just to run smoothly.
I have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and I have downloaded Patch 1 for the Dutch Gold Edition from the official site.
Does anyone know how to prevent it from crashing?

Wellcome to the forum Isogorus :halloha:
I am not used to the Dutch version of the game, but first of all, all international versions of the game are fully patched, so you shouldnīt install a patch to your gold edition..the patches are for German basic edition and add-packs only...
concerning XP problemes...you should try to lower acceleration of graphic card and soundcard..maybe that does help...
Well, I already tried to lower the hardware acceleration of my soundcard, since I read that somewhere, but that didn't help. But you could tell me where I can lower the acceleration of my graphics card.
And the patch I downloaded was for the Dutch Gold Edition version. Well, that's what it said anyway.

I donīt know, if you are abl to speak German, but here (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Bde%3B303032&x=10&y=12) is a German instruction ....
I don ot know, the english terms, but yit has to be under
start
>settings
>system control
>display (where you can set screensavers etc)
>settings
>advanced
>problem solutions
>hardware acceleration
there should be a throttle, where you can adjust the graphic card acceleration
Then click "ok"...

the main problem with anno on xp was the music, turn the music off and you should not get crashes again
Erm, since I uninstalled Anno, I reinstalled it. But now it crashes after 5 seconds, so I don't even have time to start a game. And the other things don't help either (Graphics/sound card / compatibality setting / Patch 1 for the Dutch GE)
So unless anyone else has a great idea, I guess I can't play Anno 1602 anymore. :(

Try to uninstall it once more, but
- delete the installation directory
- delete the Anno start menu entries as well as the Desktop icons if they remain there after uninstalling Anno
- delete the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ANNO1602
Now, reinstall the game, and ensure that you have lowered the hardware acceleration to zero (the a.m. Microsoft instructions are different here).
Ok, erm, I'm not that good with computers, so if you could explane some more, then that would be a great help.

The uninstall process runs automatically. After that, open the Windows Explorer and delete the directory which you used for the Anno installation (e.g., C:\program files\1602 AD) completely.
After that, open the registry (Start -> Run -> type regedit -> confirm with OK or Return). Find the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ANNO1602, select it and delete it. (But beware: Amendments in the registry are made without confirmation questions and you do not have the chance to undo them, so be careful - otherwise your computer can experience serious problems. If you are not sure, ask someone who is more familiar with that...).
Now, reinstall the game and lower the hardware acceleration to zero. If you are not sure how to do that, use the instructions given here (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Bnl%3B303032&x=18&y=10) (that's Sir Henry's link to the Dutch translation, use methods 4 and 7), but move the relevant slider to the left so that the acceleration is zero.
