View Full Version : Knights in Islamic Realms?
Sir Turylon,
you make it sound like there are no books about Medieval history of Eastern Europe countries. I can find some for you on Amazon.com about Lithuania, if you want....
The problem is with reading....
Here are two I would recommend:
1) Lithuania Ascending: A Pagan Empire Within East-Central Europe, 1295-1345 (Cambridge Studies in Medieval Life and Thought, 4th Series, 25)
by S. C. Rowell
2) The Northern Crusades
by Eric Christiansen

No, Elewyn is the one that says there are no good books on Eastern Europe. :)
thx. I'll look into that one.
I wanna repeat myself ! let's have a choice in the setup in the game whether to use original titles or just the english ones - it's a damn good compromise if ya ask me.
btw, i want you to notice a post i have made in this thread earlier: my post (http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?s=&action=&postid=29218#post29218) - i think we should help exspanding this noble chart, so every eastern european noble title is there also.

Honestly I don't see whats the fuss. I mean why would kids need and explanation why the Duke in Croatia is called Ban. This is not linguistic game or anything that deals with that. All they need to know the Duke in Croatia is not a Duke but Ban.

yeahh, and since - as far as i know - we can't use those titles to anything then we can call'em by their "local" names/titles, since it don't matter.

Elewyn, you seem to think all westerners only give a crap about making money and watching movies and material wealth.no, not all westerners, only Americans and many English :D Sure I don't think so. You are proof it's not like that!
I know I have a desire to study Eastern Europe even more, since it is hardly touched on in lower academia. if this is true, I can recomand you only one thing. Learn german and at least two slavic languages(the best probably polish and...russian I guess). If you mean it seriously, I am sure, you'll have success :go:
No, Elewyn is the one that says there are no good books on Eastern Europe.when did I? and if, it was meant as synthesis, just read carefully what I wrote in this post (http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?s=&postid=39168#post39168)
Believe me, there ARE synthetic books about eastern europe (like "Europe in middle ages", about the west). They are in German, some of them in French and very very few in English. In german they're mostly written by Germans, some by Czechs and Poles. In french, most by French, some by Germans, very few by Czechs and Poles and Hungarians. From what do you think we study our own history? there are also many books abut Czech history, written by Germans, Poles, Czechs, Russians. The best medievalists i can recomand you: Josef Zemlicka(CZ), Dusan Trestik(CZ), Barbora Krzemienska(PL), Woicziech Iwanczak(PL), Ferdinand Seibt(D)
to return back to KoH.
Sorry Henrik, one o first(maybe the first time) I disagree with you. Why to have choice when those who don't care simply don't care if that title is in english or it is general title of that region (I must say neither I nor Finallach want titles correct to every kingdom!), and those who care probably like history and they will welcome correct titles instead of english only.
@Elewyn
I'll repeat my self for the theird time let's have a choice between the propper titles and the english only when we configure how the game shall be played - then it will suit everyone - i still think this is the best solution.

I concur with henrik... (probably first or second time also).
The option should be able to be turned on and off.
This would make it a lot more user friendly for all releases. the coding would not be extreme either. just a simple...
kon.ini
[Region Specific Titles]
RegionSpecific=false
very simple.
