View Full Version : Colors, Oh the bright colors

I think its critical that each player has different colors else it would be chaos when in battle- you wouldnt know who was who!
As for peasants that really depends on what control we would have over them. If they just go about themselves then there would be no need to give em player colors and i agree they should be in drab non player colored clothing. One way to tell if a peasant belonged to your population would be to mouse over or select it maybe, which would then give you info who it belongs to.
If however we need to manage them, then yes they would need to be in player colors else we wouldnt be able to tell them apart from other players peasants!
Unless if different nations have different peasants!I have seen such thing in TZAR and i can tell you that you can't mistake someones peasant with yours.
Another thing -if you haven't noticed that most of the units travel in group-and as i have seen- groups have flags so you cant mistake your fighters with another player's ones!

One flag per group!
Well what happens when your group is fighting an enemys Group? Units everywhere how do you know who's units are who's?
I like to have control over each unit not just a group when in battle. Therefore having players colors is critical which im sure KoH developers and other players agree! :)
I'm not actualy s**** but i think that there will be battles in KoH where thousands of units will fight and therefore controling one unit is useless! Also in a real battle -the general commands many soldiers not only one of them-and KoH demands to be a realistic game.
Thats just my oppinion -the last word is for Frujin and Frank Fay:D .
Well, agreement with @G_R, KoH seems to be realistic and no commander was able to control every his soldier.
And also I know that's impossible to have every soldier with different colours.
But imagine:
you have a knight - count of Anjou, and his troops are some from Anjou, they would have colours of Anjou; then some from "Paris"-Ille-de-France(with colours of Paris or with french lillies-colours of France) and some from Burgundy and theese would have burgundian colours. And all formations (groups) would have the same flag - the French flag, cause the count of Anjou is a knight of the french king.
It would seem to be more realistic, than all-uniformed-in-french-coolours, but it would not be total-chaos and until you rule over half a Europe, you will (I hope) remember the colours of the nomber of your realms.
Its my opinion. I know that for mods it would be bit complicating to create 70 realm coulours instead of 26 kingdom colours but i think that not too much. If yes, I'm sorry and I will enjoy the game slightly the same;)
But to have it as realistic as possible is my dream about KoH. And Im looking forward to it.
PS: hope that horses realy will have more than only 1colour.;)
I agree about horses-maybe there should be pink ones:D !
But seriously I am s**** that horses will have at least 3 colours.
(4 if you count the pink ones):D

Horses: The horses will have different colors.
Units: The units have a basic color = Kingdom color. I guess when you check the screenshots you see.

OK,thanks for answer,Frank. It would probably be too difficult to change it. Nevermind

Not too difficult to change...it is more about the recognition of your own units and enemy. We think they way as it is now it looks not too artificial and serves pretty well.
But I think that having a kingdom flag as well as the district flag would be a good idea, and not too hard to change. I also don't think that would be confusing at all.
Pikeman i don't agree with you, ofcause it would give a sence of reality that it's town/district get's it's owen flag, but think of this.
How many collors can you pick before you get 2 collors that is close by each other, not that many.
So in a battel with a million different flags and 2 armies 1 light blue the other dark blue fighting against each other, it's gonna be a mess and when taking fast desicions during a hectic combat the last thing you want to do, is misinterpitade who is who on the battel, and it don't become any easyer if you are on of these, collor blind or semi collor blind persons, or you just have a old monitor with some bad collors.
Thats my 2 cent's
I don't know why colour is such a problem? The old system works fine even now-why fix something that doesn't need fixing!
A colour per nation-thats all a player needs ,no mistakes and hard descisions! You only have to worry about the health and morale of your units.

i agree.
btw; can you pick your own colour and banner at the start of the game?

No, you can't. It was already answered somewhere else...
I'm not sure, that there will be such a big problem with regional colours of slodiers, but ONLY NATIONAL FLAGS. Or is this so silly?
There will be no problem with recognizing your troops, cause every group of your soldiers will have your kingdom's/nation's flag, but will have regional colours/"uniforms" as I wrote above. More realistic but still playable, I think... but it seems that me and Pikeman are the only ones...
national flags but regional collors.
Thats even worse than national collors and regional flags.
What a mess you can't use mini maps cause evrything is filled with the rainbows collors, and the human is built to first reconise collors then symbols, it's a big mess with a ton of different collored soldiers
On mimi map there should be only national colours. There's no doubt it will be mess, if every realm would haveits own colours. Only soldiers in battle with bit different "uniforms". Even now they're not all the same, but with same fllags and it's possible to recognize them
They're still KINGDOM slodiers at first with kingdom's/nation's colours on the map.
But it would be more realistic with them like "realm uniforms"

Each player has a different color!
One color per player!
That makes sense to me and it also the most practical and less confusing for these type of games. The unity will still look nice- who cares if they have the same colored clothes! most armies did or do!
All I noted was perhaps the peasants should where drab colored clothing. :)
I don't think I can be succesfull in this thread, so I'm givin' up the fight for realm different colours. Let have one colour per player and nothing more. The game will be interesting so far... :bash:

I'd like to have it this way (not different flags per realm, but clothes).
But I cannot be succesful. So, let's have it as we can see on screenshots. It's not bad.
...but can be better....
