There are more than 25 units with variances for all the different regions in Europe. For example, you have a Scottish highlander in Scotland, a Longbowman in Wales and south England; Vikings are exactly where you expect to find them, etc. I’d like to point out that we are putting a lot of effort into making the units really different. We have seen enough games featuring hundreds of units, which do not differ at all.

Sounds pretty darn good to me- im sure there will be a lot of different clothes - possibly units without them as well :)

"There will be no problem with recognizing your troops, cause every group of your soldiers will have your kingdom's/nation's flag, but will have regional colours/"uniforms" as I wrote above. More realistic but still playable, I think... but it seems that me and Pikeman are the only ones..."
I entirely agree with you. But I don't think it will be done in KoH. People just don't care about this "minor" detail. A small detail detail that could change quite a lot concerning the realism of the battlefield.
Oh well.
If colors don't make it, perhaps we could have the names of the different companies appear like this when we select them them : "2nd Pikemen companies from Normandy".

No, I think KoH looks like tghe only game which devs work on details like this one. Will make the game better, but there is so much details like this one, so I won't be disappointed...
I only hope I would be positively surprised..

Here's another thread with theme concerning with this a bit

I don't think regional colours is at all realistic when there are deadlines to be made. It takes a lot of research to get everything right, not to mention how unpractical different coloured units could be. However, if editing and perhaps code is made available to the fan groups, like us, then realism mods are always interesting to see, escepially when people find ways to make different colours practical or at least not a nuissance on the battlefield.
What do you mean with deadlines?
And why are the realm coloues to be irealistic? Maybe it would make the game more complicated, but for kingdoms made by rebelion it's useful thing, so it has to be developed for the game, so the only way how it will make it more complicated is in the battle..and it's discussed enough above...

I am saying your idea about various colours for units is an interesting one, but developers have deadlines to make. For example, they must have portions of the game done at certain times, therefore they have to alot their time to the things they feel are the most important. Should they spend time on researching all the regional colours or instead improve the user interface or something. Maybe you could modify the game though, make the colours yourself, and release it for all of us to enjoy :)
Revival of another ooooold thread.
One great thing! Mongolian cavalry has black or grey horses, hobilars too. I still hope that knights are going to have white-noble horses. Or if not knights so kings at least.
And not all brown horses are only brown. Just see cataphracts :)
and it was *my* thread :)
-Vanedor, not much on the board anymore but still waiting for KoH

Mostly times the way to identify enemies was the type of clothes, the colors of outter clothes (dependent of their escutcheon) or a simply simbol in the chest-clothes or shield. Also flags and pennants on the lances, pikes, etc. Allways dependent of their escutcheon. Could units wear their escutcheon colors?
Personally, I don't like so much the soldiers colours devs decided. But like I said, ¿could units wear their escutcheon colors? Could be better.
I'll prefer some more realistic cos this way seems a classic multiplayer (about colors only).
Except Templars. I'm not sure they used another color than white with a red cross.

I don't know if this have been said before... but did you think in a kind of mix?
Soldiers having colors of their own but something that easily identifies their side. In a way like horses. The horses are different, but you easily find for which cause they are fighting because of the colors of their riders...
And then, you can also variate another parts of the units colors, not only horses, and still leave something to identify their side.
For example, all Templars can have the red cross, but their shields remain painted with their army color.
Anyway, if I where a dev I would concentrate in other FAR MORE important aspects/features/things of the game before than this one.
They are a lot of features in this game and here in the forum it seems that we are only concerned with units.
For example they can work in adding more chances to reinforce an army in battle. :D (Currently, and as far as I know, you can only reinforce armies already in battle once).
But this is just an example of how more important things are out there and we the fans sometimes become too OBSESSIVE with little details.
