:hello:

I've noticed something odd yesterday: when playing with 1280*960 resolution, game seems to be smoother (fluidity) using antialiasing filtering (1st level) rather than not using it (level 0)....

I do not know if it's real or just a "feeling" of fluidity.

Is there a way to measure frame per seconds in the game ?

If you've got same videocard, can you give me your feedback concerning such setting ?

Thanks.

Somewhere in all these posts, someone mentiones a utility you can get to measure the frames per second, at the moment I must leave for work so I don't have time to search. But you could use the search button to search for threads using "frames per second" as the search words to find all such threads on the topic and maybe get the name of the utility!

In think it's "FRAPS" (http://www.fraps.com/), but i wanted to know if there was a built-in function in the game for that.

Thanks. http://kay.smiley.free.fr/images/010.gif

Very odd.. Game is running nearly the same way in 1600*1200 (no filtering)...

So i wonder if this game is more GPU or CPU limited ?

Yep! That is it! No built-in function for that info!

I think the game is CPU-limited. I have a 7950GX2 and my performance is less than perfect.

Why is there no build in function to show FPS?

A 3rd pary program like FRAPS will take resources, and therefore will lower the FPS (maybe like 0.01, but still ).

Which processor for your PC ?

[I'm interested to know if a E6600 overclocked to 3.6 GHz and a 8800GTX may run smoothly this game ! :silly: ]

I have a Pentium D 3.2GHz and 4GB DDR2 RAM. Even though I have a decent dual-core processor, I feel like that must be where the game is being limited.

Ok.

I'm running the game with an Opteron 165 (Dual Core 2*1MB cache) @2.55GHz, 2GB memory, and even with that i am a little bit disappointed.

Then again the Opteron is designed as a server processor, not a desktop processor. It wont be able to run optimally

No, it acts exactly the same.

I had a 146 Opteron before, and no trouble with every games.

When i say "it's not smooth", i do not say "it's unplayable" !

It's just that it's not perfectly fluid.

Not a chance. I have an AMD Athlon x2 3800+ (running at 2.0GHz) and it's perfect. All detail up to max on my 7900GT. And i only have 1 gig of ram. I assume you have all the latest hardware drivers?

If anything it will run it better. The memory controller on those chips is superb.

I think it's a Nvidia problem with the driver!
I already emailed ASUS (builder of my 7950GX2) but they won't help me
and no chance for direct contact to nvidia

I do not know, because if Anno developers work on a patch for that, this means that they feel responsible of it , no ?

I mean: if it was a trouble with nvidia drivers, they would say "not our problem, wait Nvidia new drivers".

I've got a 7900GT card with last drivers (93.71, WHQL)... and i've got a low framerate if i have a look close to my town (17 fps), with everything set as "high", 1280*960 and 0 or 1 degree for antialiasing filtering (tried both).

I tried to lower everything, resolution to other settings... and even with that (try 800*600, with everything on "low", you will see it's not very pretty), i've got 35 fps in the same conditions.

There is clearly a problem.

Ah yes, Opteron 165 dual Core@2.55GHz, 2 GByte Memory...

Maybe you should try 97.44 (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1532) . I know they're mainly for the 88xx series but they are meant to improve performance in some games.

I haven't tested the frame rates on my system yet. I'll do so when I get back from work.

Please note that this driver currently only supports GeForce 8800 series.....

I think that won't work with other cards.

If the problems are non-existent on ATI cards, I would say it is a nVidia problem! Maybe they are testing to confirm that it is a problem with nVidia and not a problem with the game.

I agree, but it joins back one of my interrogation:

- Is it a compiler problem which was not optimized for Nvidia graphic support ?

Or... is it Nvidia that did not respect "the working frame" for graphical functions (libraries) supported by that compiler.

We will see.

But (i wil not give name of company, but a very well known one.. ) there is a total opposite example for a game (driving one) which has trouble with ATI X1xxxk cards (X1800/X1900 architecture) but runs perfectly with Nvidia cards, company said "we agree there is a problem, but we do not have time and money to correct it."

Hope it will not be the case here.

I'm so sorry. I meant to link to these (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1524)
