Yes he was a rupublican for his first term. Then he start his own third party called the Bull Moose Party (or something like that). It really hurt the republican party b/c Teddy took a lot of republicans with him.

actually, no... FDR was republican. If you go back farther into the party history... you'd find that the Democrats are not really democrats. They are Democratic Republicans. The modern Republicans are not really Republicans... they are from the Whig party. I choose to follow the Federalist standpoint instead of either one. (Think Conservative Democratic Republican. AKA Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, George Washington, Ben Franklin... etc.)

It used to be that the Democrats were the party of the farmers. They've switched and turned into the party of labor. Rural voters are now Republicans... it's one big confusing mess. (no wonder Kerry doesn't know who he really is. lol)


@ Republicans and environmentalism. They invented it in this country. Thomas Jefferson, who was a Democratic Republican, setup the first natural preservation association. He also began the archaeology studies over here. Teddy Roosevelt created the National Park Service.


@Ben and his comment about Bush and environment. Did you know he cleaned up Texas? Ask Cork. He might be able to sight references since he lives in Texas.

The problem with the environmental protections in this country are not found in the Federal Government. The main problems are with the states. They all have different regulations and emission ratings. IE, California has very strict emissision ratings while Michigan is just adopting a few. The problem with what the rest of the world sees is found in the "minority voice having the largest voice." The environmental groups such as Earth First and what not. They are hypocritical citizens. They protest SUVs by burning them. (What causes worse polution, a tire fire or gasoline) Anyone know? it is the tire fire.
