The history was in the beggining with some misteries to solve. That must be mantained till the end.

Extract from “On dragons and their human companions”

The ancient dragons were creatures of great power and wisdom in many ways superior to the humans, but this is not the topic of the following text. This study is meant for the people not familiar with contemporary dragons and is meant to bring better understanding of the nature of the great beasts of our time.

A dragon has generally three stages in his life. The first lasts from his birth to the moment when he finds his human companion. In this stage the beast is extremely aggressive to all human beings who do not qualify to his standards. This behavior remains until today unexplainable, but some suggest it is an instinct remaining from the times when dragons didn’t have human companions. Therefore wild-born dragons are extremely dangerous and most probably are responsible for the fear and superstition connected with dragons among the common folk.

The second stage begins with the finding of the suitable human for his lifetime companion. Nowadays people from the mountains of Tirgu Mures bring small children with strong blood to the nests of the dragons exactly when the little dragonlings hatch. In that way the young beasts can find their companions more easily and the damage caused by their search is prevented. The exact process of selecting the little children who will become dragonfriends will be discussed in a further chapter.

With the creation of the pair dragon-human a new life begins for both. They are truly devoted to each other and a strange bond, maybe comparable only to the human feeling of love, is created among them. Both cannot live without one another and if the rider or the dragon dies before their time, the remaining partner dies in a short period of time.

The times of the ancient dragons who lived for thousands of years are long gone. Some blame the pairing between dragon and human for this but this is quite wrong. The companionship between dragon and human really shortens the lifespan of the dragon, and extends the one of the human up to no less than 200 years (the record in this respect belongs to Arophant the Old who lived 241 years), but it has a much deeper meaning. After the great dragon wars at the end of the Dark Ages, which lead to the extinction of the white, black, and red dragons, it is said that the rest of their species had lost their desire to live any more. The vast populations of winged bests began to decline dramatically and eventually they became extinct in most regions of the known world. However in the mountains of Tirgu Mures the plain shepherd Ranidal (later called Ranidal the First) found a dragonling next to his parent’s dead body and the small beast instead of attacking the scared man, went to him and became his companion. Before it was too late for all the dragons the wise man started to search for young beasts and to try to find a mate for them. In this way the dragon population of Tirgu Mures was preserved and thus the dragons survived until our time. It is believed that the will for life in men is what gives meaning of a dragon’s life and without its partner the beast can not live further.

The period of coexistence of human and dragon is characterized by the absolute devotion of both to one another. As the dragon can not have another companion after his human friend dies, the human from his side never takes a wife or a husband and the feeling of love as we normal people understand it, is irrelevant to the dragonfriends.

The aim in the life of every dragon is to give birth to one small dragonling, and this usually happens around his 180 year. There are no male or female dragons as some legends suggest. The great winged beasts have only one gender and don’t need a mate from their specie in order to give birth. The aim of the human however is a bit different. He or she is supposed to find a suitable companion among the small children of his kind, and thus ensure the survival of the dgagonling of the partner.

The last stage of the life of a dragon comes with the death of his human companion. A lot of speculations are made about this period because noone really knows where the dragons die. After their mate is no more with them they leave on their “last journey” and never come back. Some peasant legends speak of a land far, far to te east where dragons still live and prosper as in the past times, but even if there is some truth in these words, it is very unlikely that the dragons can make such a tremendous journeys without their companions. The stories of the dragonfriends tell that a dragon can not fly alone more than 50 kilometers without his human mate, if he or she is ill or injured. But still, nobody has found any remains of the dragons who were deprived of their companions, maybe they manage to reach the seas with their last strengths and die there, nobody knows for sure.

The secret diary of the Evil Lord Elewyn

Day one
I have a deep depression. I feel sad and alone and nobody loves me nor understands me. Everybody call me Evil Lord Elewyn and this makes me cry… sometimes when its dark…I feel so depressed. Don’t they understand? My parents named me Evil, I’m not evil for real…

Day two
I feel depressed again. I went in the garden today and decided to check if I was evil for real. None of my beautiful flowers have petals no more *hlip*. I’m Evil, I’m Good, I’m Evil, I’m Good… every time it came out that I’m Evil… the life is so unfair. Now I feel even more depressed.

Day three
I’ll pay a visit to my neighbors Lord Turylon and Lord Henrik, just to show them that I’m so good natured and to drink a cup of tee with them maybe. They seem to be such great guys, I’m sure we’ll get along very good.

Day three
On the road to Maidenburg I saw some poor peasants and decided to show them my good will. I threw a purse of coins to them but unfortunately hit one of them on the head. They threatened me with their shovels and rapes and threatened me with words which meaning I don’t quite understand, but they sounded quite mean to me. Even they think I’m evil… I’m going to cry again…

Day four
I arrived in Maidenburg late this night and everybody ran from me, how can I explain them I’m not evil at all. I tried to chase some of the people to tell them my good intentions, but they seemed to suffer strikes of sudden panic. I gave up. Finally I found Turylon and Henrik in a strange inn under the name of VNL, I wonder what it means. Lord Henrik was quite unfriendly and when I introduced myself he only burped, farted and began to giggle rather sarcastically when I explained I was not Evil at all. I think he didn’t like me. But Turylon was a nice guy. I think he even liked me at first, but than we started discussing politics and he showed himself rather aggressive. I think this Henrik guy has a bed influence on him. Doesn’t matter any more I’m on my way home now. My delicate soul couldn’t bare it any more. I feel offended… sad… and depressed…

Day five
I bought new flowers from Hawk_Knight from the Netherlands to plant them in my garden. I feel even more depressed when I see the plants without their petals.

Day six
Bloody Hollanders! Their bloody tulips have defect petals. I can not see if I’m still Evil now.
I feel angry… Oh no! What have I written! I can not believe it! I feel ashamed… and depressed.

Day seven
I decided to go to Pope Finellach to confess. I can not bare the burden of what I wrote yesterday.

Day eight
Hmm, rather strange… and depressing as I come to think of it… Today I received a telegram from Pope Finellach. He invites me to a special meeting of elite knights and rulers in his residence in Rome. What a strange coincidence, exactly when I wanted to go to seek his divine help myself. I even began to lose some of my depression.

Day nine
The road to Rome is rather boring. I got migraine from all this traveling. My depression is back.

Day ten
Today I saw a woman which barely had any clothes on her next to the road. I decided to help her and told her to come in my coach. She started to talk about money and told many stuff I didn’t understand. I decided to give her some money and she looked very satisfied. Then she undressed completely and to my astonishment started to do strange things. I got scared and ran away. When my coach caught up with myself few miles further she wasn’t inside anymore. Strange people live in this country. i got even more depressed than usual and don’t think I’m going to write in the next few days.

Day fifteen
Finally in Rome! The city is beautiful and the people are nice too. Makes me think of my home… darn! Now I feel homesick!

Day sixteen
Pope Finellach was rather surprised when I told him I wanted to confess to him. He stared at me, looked up in his notebook and asked me if I was the evil lord Elewyn. I told him that he was correct. He laughed rather manically and told me not to joke with him any more. I was invited on a dinner with rather extraordinary individuals. I felt that everybody was suspicious about the others. I’m not sure if they like me. But for one thing I’m sure – they don’t like flowers.

Day seventeen
Tomorrow a great thing is going to happen. I just understood the gentlemen I had dinner with the night before were all prominent foreigners (this explains their peculiarities). We are about to discuss important business tomorrow. I feel excited… no not in that way… people always understand me wrong…

Day eighteen
My new friends are great *hiccup*! They are rather *hiccup* mysterious though, nobody told me his name, *hiccup* neither where he came from. At the beginning I felt rather intimidated, they wanted to drink *hiccup* virgin blood. I refused, but they said it was important. After the first few goblets I felt much *hiccup* better though. I don’t remember much of what happened afterwards but we made some kind of *hiccup* ritual or something, I was the main participant, it felt nice to get so much *hiccup* attention.
Now I feel a bit dizzy, I’ll write tomorrow more about it.

Day nineteen
I woke up in some king of dungeon or something!?! I have the strange feeling that between days eighteen and nineteen passed a bit more time. This Turylon guy tried to put some horse dung on me. I knew that he was always mean to me. The salsa was rather delicious though. But the three hours in the river ****ed generally.

Day twenty
The same procedure with the horse waste today as well… This time it was Henrik though. I like Turylon more, Henrik was kind of afraid and threw the dung on me from few meters away… it wasn’t pleasant at all. But the salsa is getting better, one must be always optimistic.

Day twenty one
****! The worst day so far! Today the horse had diarrhea! ****!

Day twenty two
Today was a rather peaceful day, nobody came to torture me… but I need some food.

Day twenty three
Second day without food. I start to miss the salsa.

Day twenty four
Today I tried to eat from my chains. They weren’t very delicious, but I read somewhere that one needed iron in his diet. Funny that I don’t remember eating any in the past.

Day twenty five
Hooray! Salsa again! And Henrik’s hand was shaking today (don’t think he was afraid though, it must be something else), he missed a lot with the dung. Another lucky day!

Today I feel kind of angry and disturbed. Something came in the castle last night which causes this I think. Oops its coming agAINNNNRRRRGHHHHHH!!!
