View Full Version : US Patch 1.02
Is the patch going to be released or not, it has been two weeks since the release of all the others, I can be patient and wait as long as know it is going to be released. There has been no word since the others were released. The American market should be treated equally like all the others. :bash: Please what is the answer will the patch be released or not?

So obviously the patch is in review by your distributor Aspyr... contact them:

I contacted them and this was the reply:
"Thanks for contacting us. At this time, there is no word on any additional patches for 1701 AD. Thank you for your inquiry, however, and please let us know if there is any technical assistance you might require."
They said it would be released, but they would not give me a date. I would like to thank waxworm for his polite and helpful reply.

Yesterday I tendered a support ticket, stating that I had heard that the patch had been delivered to them and when could we expect their release of it. I haven't received any response yet, although I haven't returned to track the status of the ticket.
Thanks Dobber. It would be nice to get a answer. Maybe the buyout by Ubi is gumming up the works?
Got an answer 5 minutes ago!
Hello, Stephen.
Thanks for your inquiry, but right now we have no news concerning further 1701
updates. What I would suggest, however, to keep tabs on future updates, is to
check support.aspyr.com from time to time, and subscribe to our newsletter on
our website.
Have a great day!
I fully trust and believe the person that gave me the unofficial info that the patch had been sent to Aspyr! My feelings at this time are that Aspyr does not care about us! I feel another "EA Games scenario" playing out here!

I feel the same way, we don't get the patch and I still say we won't get the upgrade to the game either! They did the same thing with 1503 AD. I really think this is wrong, why take our money for a game they have no intention of keeping up with. Bad business if you ask me.
If Aspyr chooses not to distribute the expansion, maybe Sunflowers/Ubisoft will find another distributor!
I hope they find a different distributor, if aspyr is holding back the patch on us then I won't buy anything further from aspyr.:secruity:

Ditto!
I have a couple of questions though but not sure if I can get an answer to them.
1. What IS the standard contract wording between developer and distributor regarding future support?
2. Is there wording in the contract that specifically adresses patch responsibility? (If Sunflowers provides a patch, are they obligated to release it).
It would be reasonable to assume the wording was such that Aspyr is not required to create a patch. Just as it is reasonable to assume they are required to distribute a patch provided by the developer. The entire business relationship between the two is distribution. (we are not talking about brain surgery here)
3. What was the total number of US version units sold? (class action potential, for violation of contractural obligations).

+1
I suggest all that are really concerned about this US patch being released contact Aspyr and file a support ticket. Maybe Aspyr will react if enough of their customers express an interest. Then again, maybe not.

I have no idea about the contractual responsibility between the two, but I understand that the patch has to be adapted by Aspyr for the US version, insuring among other things their splash screen and such remain in the game boot process(that was one thing that delayed the release of the game in the US, once Aspyr had it they had to adapt the installation files to include their trademarks and such before the game CD's were pressed). If I am not mistaken they have to adapt it to work with the changes they made to game installation.

That makes sense regarding the initial distribution and having to "tweak" the patch to fit what they did. One would think that, as part of the authorization to change the install, that they would be required to tweak the patch as well.
An analogical perspective if I may. (Political correctness makes this more a pita than necessary  )
The cook at a restaurant prepares your order.
......cook=developer. order=customer desire for the game
The order needs to be delivered on two dishes (veggies in a bowl). He/she gives the two dishes to the waitress/waiter.
......waitress/waiter=distributor. Veggies=patch
The waitress/waiter leaves the veggies behind and only delivers the entrée.
The customer has not been given their full order, that they have already paid for.
1. The cook fires the waitress/waiter and has another one deliver the veggies.
2. The cook delivers the veggies himself.
3. The customer leaves in a rage and files a claim in court against the waitress/waiter for failure to fulfill a contractual obligation.
I WANT MY VEGGIES DAMN IT!
I've also opened a ticket with Aspyr in hopes of encouraging them to release the US version of the 1.2 patch.
Attention UbiSoft!!! For future reference, please make sure that all of the companies that distribute your games are contractualy obligated to distribute all patches. It makes no sense to allow customers to buy a game (in good faith) and then have future support of that game be dependent on the whims of your distributors.
Also, PLEASE do what you can to "encourage" Aspyr to release the US version of the expansion pack. As we all know, there was not a US version of the expansion for 1503, which means that US gamers either do without the various user-made scenarios that were made with the expansion pack, or we have to modify the registry, which seems a bit dicey to me.
When is the expansion due to be released? Who knows maybe Ubi will sell the Expansion in the USA and add the patch in it. Problem solved. We will have to wait, but better late than never.
It's a very fun game so I'm willing to grasp at straws.
I would think that since Ubi bought Sunflower any new expansions wouldn't have to go through Aspyr. That maybe why Aspyr is not willing to pay for bandwidth on a item they will no longer make anything on. They could also be using the patch to try and force Ubi to use them to distribute any expansions to the USA since they probably own the rights to the patch.
The expansion is/was scheduled for 3rd quarter release(somewhere between early July and late September)!

I also have been waiting silently for this patch. I would recommend all that all who are interested to place a ticket in the aspyr support system. Maybe a greater number of tickets will get them movin on it. It seems like they have responded to other title updates faster than this one.
I am running UK patch on the US version but have not done anything more than play one scenario.
Yes, I posted a ticket with Aspyr, and received the response that the U.S. patch would be coming out soon. Of course, that was over a week ago. Perhaps some peoples' definitions of "soon" differ from others'.
Nonetheless, it seems absolutely ridiculous from a customer support standpoint to have the patch already created, and have some bull**** about splash screens or compatibility testing hold things up for this long.
I guess it is just something to keep in mind in the future, to only buy Sunflower/Aspyr stuff used, well after the last patch is out.
I got a reply today from Aspyr- they are working on the patch, more info to follow. They also said they currently have no info re: the expanson pack.
