All I'll say about the drivers is that you use at your own risk. I know I won't use any ever again after past experineces and why I won't suggest any other than what are approved and on the official site.

Also why I say to make both the same in the pagefile as that "locks" it in and dedicates it as a fluctuating pagefile can be problematic if it tries to refresh at just the wrong time.

If these things all don't help (if all done done and kept), then it is most likely a Vista bug issue and that I can't say more about as I won't have the piece of junk on any system I ever have. It was released too soon and I'm partial to XP with what it has that Vista does not, and that of oucrse is just me.

Almost forgot! After you finish adjusting the pagefile (and after reboot) don't forget to defragment the harddrive it was changed on either.

The solution is actually much simpler, for me that was, first make sure that the game is in the DEP exception list, by going to system -> advanced system settings -> performance settings -> DEP tab. After that go to the Anno folder and go to the properties of anno1701 then select the Windows XP SP2 compatibility option. Problem solved!

So you don't need to hassle with shutting down background programms or disconneting your mic, usb etc. Almost every Vista computer has a dual core processor so unless your running super heavy programms in the background like photoshop or moviemaker it's no problem. I personally have I-Tunes running at the same time.

This is the way to go to get your games running under Vista. EVEN your win95/98 games! The compatibility settings in Vista are much better than those of XP.

Did I say it was supported? I just said how it works for me and if you have a problem with someone else posting solutions than maybe YOU shouldn't post on this board. Have fun on your personal crusade against Vista, it may be far from perfect for me however it works better than XP. Maybe your experiences are different but that's no reason to go off like that.:sad:


Anyway, I forgot to say that I also run the game as administrator. Even when your are logged in as the administrator Vista still doesn't let you play games/executebles. To counteract this go to the properties of anno1701 again and click the tagbox infront of 'run as administrator'

I had no problem in you posting your solution and state it as such. What I have a problem with is you saying that what I suggest (and has been proven to make the system, no matter the operating system) work better. it is you who earned the remark as I've been troubleshooting games on system that predate Windows XP probably longer than you first had XP (and if you don't agree look at our ages) and I've been here with a very high success rate in helping those not only here but on other forums also. You best check before you contradict what others are saying and have said. Relaxing in not in my natue to begin with and especially when one comes here and contradicts what I've said and know works. To state a possible solution is one thing, but to contradict one such as me, with as much time and experience as I have with opinions is another.

I see now, let me correct myself. When it works and only IF it works there is no problem with running background programms. Ofcourse you are right in that it takes up resources and can cause instability. I didn't mean to contradict you more in saying that it might not be necessary because I find it always very annoying to close everything. I wrote it down a bit to harsh and quick.

I don't doubt your extended knowledge in anyway. My own skills at the computer are above average at best. So all I can do is try out a lot and see what works.

Better and now we can agree. Yes, one has to choose their words carefully as you can see and I'm one who does not leave anything to chance or untouched (or if you prefer unanswered as you can see). Correction noted and accepted. You have done a service yourself for some with Vista, but there is no sure fire solution to any problem either I have found. The solution is actually much simpler, for me that was, first make sure that the game is in the DEP exception list, by going to system -> advanced system settings -> performance settings -> DEP tab. After that go to the Anno folder and go to the properties of anno1701 then select the Windows XP SP2 compatibility option. Problem solved!

So you don't need to hassle with shutting down background programms or disconneting your mic, usb etc. Almost every Vista computer has a dual core processor so unless your running super heavy programms in the background like photoshop or moviemaker it's no problem. I personally have I-Tunes running at the same time.

This is the way to go to get your games running under Vista. EVEN your win95/98 games! The compatibility settings in Vista are much better than those of XP.

How perculiar, I actually found out that it now begins to give the error message later in the game when you've + AI have build a lot. Personally I think the problem still lies with the Nvidia drivers, as it also starts to give graphic glitches now, somehow they are not able to make some good drivers for Vista :S Or it can be that it happens when you play for too long, with me it gave the exception when it saved for the 3 hour mark. So many I shouldn't play it too long and control my addiction...

:lol: As noted even by nVidia themselves, they will not make any guarantees with the Vista drivers they submit as the issue is with Vista itself. The price one has to pay for using a non-supported OS and one that has not had all the bugs worked out yet. Parly why I won't have Vista aside from some features XP has that were left out, so if you are patient enough, they'll get things worked out, but I'd prefer a tested and verified system myself with old and new applications.

Um Dobber :rolleyes: , I can read it perfectly. It's just a matter of interpreting it. From what it shows me, it's a conflict with a background apoliacton (or servide) of some kind. The error happens during a .dll being read or executed. So, while I can't pinpoint the error of exactly the given time or place, these are what it has to do with. I do agree it's a ticket issue though.

If that was the reason for the edit, my apologies and noted. More than likely it's ATI drivers only being compatible with XP as I doubt they have written any that support Vista yet, but can't say and could be more.
