Are any of you (who are trying to play) using Vista ?
If you or your friend don't , you might wanna try this :
1. anno 1701 - Hamachi (http://forums.hamachi.cc/viewtopic.php?t=14632&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=1701&start=0)
2. We've been experimenting a lot and one of the causes was that some games take the wrong network interface. Therefor it's pretty obvious you can't see anyone else, since you are on a different network. (Hamachi is kind of a private network not directly accessible from the internet unless you are in it). However, for some games, you could change the network interface ingame and then it worked. But I belief this is not possible with Anno, so this won't help you much I think.
If either of you IS using Vista :
Then it's a common problem no one has a solution for YET, not even the creators of Ham. We're having the same problem with trackmania.. Everyone can see eachother in game, except for those who got Vista installed. They can't see anyone else ingame. One of them CAN host a game, and other xp users can join. But this way, it's impossible to play with more than 1 vista user.
