I wouldn't have said it before, as I was one of those who was saying I'll just buy both and enjoy both, no big deal- but I've had Rome Total War for about a week now and...

MY GOD! IT blows me away! It is the most engrossing game I've played since XCOM and the first CIV game! It is now my #3 top game of all time.

Now, don't get me wrong, I already ordered my copy of KOH from freaking England no less, since the pubs here don't think a NA distribution is a good idea, so it's not like I didn't buy both games- but I may not get around to even trying out KOH for weeks now.

RTW is THAT good. I've always been a fan of Rome, so it might be my personal taste- but the 3d strategy map is beutiful, the 3d battles are incredibly involving with decent AI (not perfect, there is room for improvement), the game just does about everything right in my opinion.

If you're wavering bewteen RTW and KOH band you're not totally in love with the medieval settings, look into RTW. The Demo for RTW does it NO justice.

It's a good time to be astrategy wargame player, and maybe not such a good time to be a producer of them unless you're very very good. Here's hoping KOH is very VERY GOOD!

I was the guy who slammed LoTR3, and Crusader Kings, and, I think, rightly so- they just weren't fun- RTW is a different ball of wax... it is incredibly fun! And patches can only make it more fun! It makes me squeel like a little girl with delight.

One thing I have been wondering about RTW, is the strategy map in real time like KoH?

No it's turn based. 1 turn equal summer the other is winter, so 2 = 1 year.

Begin 275 BC or so, end 14 AD. = 600 turns or so.

Turn Based system is something that I greatly despise...
Away with you RTW :D

The demo for R:TW looked gorgeous, but demonstrated nothing about the strategic side of the game. It was a simple battle. And since I'm not a fan of the roman era nor do I like games that "end" at a certain time, R:TW is not for me.

Knights of Honour is the real successor to the Lords of the Realm legacy.

I played the demo of both games.. i gotta say ... RTW is better...once u play, u will all see. RTW doesnt have just great graphics but also its amazingly realistic and interactive... it cant be beat. Koh is # 2 ... not to bad tho .. just not the winner.

having played RTW for a few days i must agree it is stunning, playing over lan with RTW defenitely beats playing KOH over lan.

RTW is a game about battles and as such it certainly beats KoH in multiplayer and it's certaibnly better game for those who care only about graphics. For those who want to play with running a medieval kingdom KoH is by far better game.

You'll get no arguments from me about R:TW being a really good game and all that, but realistic? C'mon. And seeing how R:Tw is in Roman times, KoH most certainly is better for anyone who wants to run a medieval kingdom :p

I think they are both great.

I would hope so, considering them KoH is set in Medieval times and R:TW is set in Ancient times. Dont know how you would run a Medieval Kingdom in R:TW :P

RTW has much better battles than KoH, on the other side, Koh has much better strategy map. Enough said :)

Both good.
RTW good battles but turn-based (bah).
KoH good diplomacy and battles, but too much rebellions (bah).

I think this is the crux of the differences. R:TW is for those who want battles, while KOH is for the thinkers out there.

I play both too (althou I got only the KoH demo...the distribution here is disturbing). Every game got its charm. I want battle romes - here it comes, I want battle Germans - the demo awaits (it is not funny...I hope they will deliver it SOON). Both games are very good, and both devs work for improvements which is great!

I had RTW about week before KoH I played RTW non-stop even when KoH came in the mail but I finally opened it up and I like both alot. The up side of having a turned based game is that you have time to think before you invade a opposing nation, but it decreases the intensity of having to make fast decisions. Another factor is that in RTW your armies are constently costing you money where as in KoH they only cost you food when their on the move. There are alot more diffrences graphics, battle system, and time. but both are good games
