Hi folks,

I have a strange problem concerning koh and daemon tools...
Even if the the dll is definitely unlocked, koh gives me the message it is locked, I've tried several times to lock and unlock the dll as described above, still no success...
Furthermore, even if I uninstall daemon and make sure the daemon.dll isn't in my c:\Windows folder nor anywhere else, I still get the message "daemon tools isinstalled but locked" :(((((((((((((((

I've searched the registry for entries with "daemon" after uninstall, indeed found some (I'm even sure ALL) and deleted all of them, but I still get this message :((((( :bash:

Can anyone help? How comes koh (respectively the copy protection) still thinks there's a daemon.dll if there definitely isn't?

I also have the same problem as Kurt. I too have tried everything he has tried and haven't been able to play KoH for the past few days. KoH worked at first, with Daemon Tools running, nothing mounted, until one day I restarted my computer and now KoH will only say that daemon.dll is locked when it clearly is not locked, and no matter what I do, even by uninstalling Daemon Tools and removing anything related to it in the registry, deleting/renaming daemon.bak, etcetera, KoH still refuses to start! Please help! So far I've played a few mediterranean games (Naples, Venice, Antioch), and now I'd like to play something in northern or central europe, but alas! Has anyone worked through this problem or have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

It usually helps to just reinstall the Daemon Tools - especially after parts of the tools were deleted manually (thus causing the lock error).

I've done that too (no need to say several times...), no success...
I've tried RegCleaner, same sh**...

I think I have two options:

1. Format C: :bash:  :bash:

2. Sell Knights of Honour

I've tried so much, if I had known before, I would have reinstalled Windows right in the beginning, couldn't have wasted more time...

In my opinion, it's such a pity, Knights of Honour is such a great game, and then comes this stupid copy protection and ruins it all...

Maybe it would be a good idea to print the type of copy protection on the box of games in the future, then people would know what they're buying...

Kurt, if you still have the problem then probably a file from another bad installation of the Daemon Tools is left over in your Windows directory, e.g. daemon.bak or uscscsi.sys. You can try and delete that file.

Hi folks,

nothing works, no success, checked for all files containing scsi in my Windows directories and deleted, still no success, sometimes I think this protection wants to punish me for even thinking of a CD emulator... Well, I guess if Software Producers want to abolish everything that COULD copy a CD, they will unfortunately succeed, too big the power of the market, Sunflowers aren't the only ones...

Well, enough sad words, what if I used a "no-cd" crack? Would that be illegal? If yes, I'd really like to hear a statement from a sunflowers official about that. I can't play my legally purchased game by legal means!!!

Kurt, do you have a uscscsi.dll (.bak) or similar in your WINDOWS\ directory?

In any case, if you used a tool like AntiBlaxx or similar to intentionally corrupt your registry, that might be the cause.

But reinstalling Daemon Tools and Alcohol should always fix the problem.

Looking at all this, i concluse this:
KoH changes and i have heared also deletes files without asking or wanring for it.
That is by law illegal...

Well, i am programmer too. I have made couple games, and now i am planning to make one game, and it's not free. If there's a program that let crack my program, then i would get angry, because progeamming isn't easy, and think, you have spent hundreds of hours to make your game and you just want to get a little fee for it, and then someone just violates the rules and crack your game. But if i could have a idea how to prevent this then i have 2 choices:
1) i'll shotdown the game immeditly
2) i'll delete the crack and let user play the game.
I don't care about that i am going to delete user's data, he or she has no rights to use the crack, so we are even.

I agree that piracy must be fought, i know how hard it is to make a good software product, especialy a game. I absolutely agree that the game programmers should be payed one way or another. Game making is an art, it's not a job. Good games are made with much work and effort.

But i'm still a freedom lover and i got a moto: "My bytes are mine, by harddisk is mine, and noone should tell me, or force me how should i use it.". So i'm agains any interventions from programs that could one way or another touch into my info, even if it is such a miserable dll file, or even a crack for a program. This is mine, i got it, i can use it as i want! Dll file now, a whole program or computer tomorrow. This cannot be allowed!

Timo: "I don't care about that i am going to delete user's data" - this is not the way a professional game programmer should think.

(NOTHING in this reply is particulary adressed to KoH or it's creators)

This is mine, i got it, i can use it as i want! From this I conclude that once you downloaded warez it would be totally okay for you to use them without paying the developers. But on the other hand you write the following:I absolutely agree that the game programmers should be payed one way or another.Perhaps you want to be more particular on this.

Who said that i'm going to download warez, and not pay the developers?

I was meaning something like a no-cd crack, or in our case - DaemonTools. DT is not a warez, or is it? Instead of DT there could've beed a licensed software product. What happens next? It's not safe not only for the users, but for the developers too.

So, what is on my hard is mine. Imagine that this crack is mine, i bought the game, and i don't like it to ask for a cd every time? So i suited it for my needs. Maybe the game would decide that i'm a pirat and get all my details including my address and give them to the "appropriate institutions". This sounds stupid, i know, but we're not too far from it! This is a direct breach of the democracy, i think. I payed for this game, i can do whatever i want with it (exept selling it). I can even put it in a microwave to see if my $50 CD burns better than those empty for $1, if i wish!

easy easy ... no need to insult people and get upset!

as i mentioned before ... KoH self isn't modifying anything ... it's the copy protection system SUNFLOWERS licensed for this game. but with patch 1.03 the problem was solved ... the US version has the 1.03 patch already included.

we weren't aware of this before the first people adressed this misbehaviour here in the board.
me is also using DT for mounting linux iso images. linux self can mount iso files per default ;)

Hey webmaster, i am new in here, did you taked part of making KoH?
I have no company, i usually make games by myself, i live in Estonia, very small country population is 1,4 million people. Think that someone makes a crack that violates my game rules, this takes all my money away, everyboy needs money, money don't make you happy, but it's easyier to live with it.
Wouldn't this make you sad and angry?

hi timmo, welcome on board ;)
as me nick says i just attended the website and forum for KoH. the coding of the game itself is the work of BSS.
but what has your question to do with DT?

Timmo

Do you mean the question that did you taked part of making KoH?
I was just curious, sorry for off-topic.

Actually, Webmaster, i'm not upset, never was. I was meaning no offence. Have i insulted someone? Sorry if i did. Nothing personal. :go:

If we talk particulary for KoH, i know that it's the copy protection that do the thing, it's not the game. I love this game and i really respect it's creators, so nothing i say is directed to them. (and don't worry, the thing about the microwave is the last thing i'll do to fix my game, certainly  )

What if the copy protection creators did it so the deamon.bak is renamed back to daemon.dll after the game exits, leaving DT not completely useless (for an unexperienced user)? The programmers aren't stupid, they sertainly know this could be done. But the fact they left it this way is disturbing. I still wonder why? :bash:
Whatever...

Hey Timmo. So, you're a game programmer? Good, i wish you luck with your projects (really, no offence) :go: But just an advice, think twice before deleting something on the user's machine, right

thx snake ;)
i also do not like software modifying me machine without my knowledge. espacially when it's creating errors ... but complex software is never without errors ;(
