A cheat is a reconginsed cheat that has been put there on purpose
All other pieces in the game that can be done as "tricks" are simply poor programming that give benefits on certain actions. But that will remain as is with no new patches
That said if all players are aware of such tricks within the game then they can all use it in multiplayer games etc. Ie finding extra gold or food due to certain actions or placing certain features somehwere - i remember settlers 3 had these said bugs where you could get extra wood by placing a woodcutter next to certain trees
Same thing exists in 1503 AD and im sure in 1602 AD
Its cheating i guess if no one else knows about it but where everyone in a multi is aware then it is quite validly used unless it affects gameplay in an unacceptible unbalanced way
Consider it more a more successful strategy if you use loopholes - errors / bugs in a favourable manner.
I hope this is more on topic lol we wouldnt want to upset anyone
Oh by the way im going to tone down the rhetoric but as i am getting the game ill be sticking around for a while If that is unaccpetible well i can always be deregistered.

ok here are all the cheats and tricks for the usa version.
you know i had to do this i could not stand it no longer
*********************************
now lets see
you can use some cheats with out turning on the code. so i will say them first.
1. pressing the keys of : F5, F6, F7 will speed up the game for a short time
then it goes back to normal, for hydroplaning speed you press the shift key
and the F8 key at the same time, that is also for just a short time.
2. you can get more then one of the wagons from the warehouses by
building one warehouse and then getting the wagon out. and then destroying
the warehouse, and rebuilding a second one. this second one needs to be
built outside of the first ones area of control. so you can only get as many as
there is equal to the amount of unclaimed area from the warehouse or
marketplaces on your island. it goes with out saying but ( the bigger the island
is the better chance you have a getting more wagons).
now to get back to the coded cheats.
to enable the cheats you need to do this when you start the game up once
you can see your island you press down the control ,shift, alt,w, keys all at
the same time. then let go.
now look in the left lower corner of the screen see that little white line
in the games image.
you now type the number 2061 and press the "a" key once then the enter
key once ( how ever this is sometimes messed up. on my computer i sometimes
need to press both "a" and enter keys at the same time. or the enter key then the "a" key not sure why but that happens )
now after pressing them keys the cheat codes are on or should be. check by
doing this cheat code.
press the shift key and the letter " m " key and watch your money go up. if it
does not increase in the amount then you need to try turning the cheat codes
on again.
( some times it takes me 15 time of trying )
once the codes are on these are the cheats
press these keys at the same time. and make sure your mouse pointer is over
your warehouse you want to fill up. except the money it fills up when the
pointer is over any of your islands. your ships can be filled this way also
but they need to be selected first.
shift and the m key is for money
shift and the z key is for bricks
shift and the k key is for cannons
shift and the h key is for wood
shift and the t key is for tools
by doing the same thing you do when turning on the cheats to get the white
prompt line then instead of the number
you are to be able to type gold and press enter but i believe this is a fake
one to get you to quit using the cheats.
the fastgame cheat is a fake just to make you give up using cheats also.
you can get this one but why? the shift m gives you more?
type Columbus and give yourself a yellow flag and 10,000 dollars at once.
now for these you need to press the same keys as in turning on the cheats
the control,shift,alt,w
all at once for each item you want.
this will tell the game your turning on the cheats for loading the
warehouse up.
and at the little white prompt line you type in the number of the item you
want in the boat or warehouse.
(the boat will need to be selected as i said before and the mouse will
need to be over the warehouse or island your wanting to load up.)
then after you type in the number you press the Enter key and let go then
you press the A key and hold it until your warehouse is fill with that
item.( it helps to have opened the warehouse's crate to see what it has
first.) the numbers for the items are as follows.
02 for iron ore
03 for gold
04 for cotton
05 for sugarcane
06 for tobacco
07 for cattle
08 for corn or wheat
09 for flour
10 for iron pipe or rods
11 for swords
12 for rifles
13 for cannons. but shift and k will do this one with out having
to enter the codes
14 for food
15 for cigars
16 for spices
17 for cocoa
18 for Rum or Wine which all islanders are asking for most.
19 for fabric
20 for clothing
21 for jewellery
22 for tools but shift and t will do this one with out having
to enter the codes
23 for wood but shift and h will do this one with out having to
enter the codes
24 for bricks but shift and z will do this one with out having to
enter the codes
now to make your soldiers have their colored flag over them so you can see
them you do this
during the game at any time just press the M key once for marking the
soldiers and if you want to take it off them just press M again and it is
gone.
also needed to know info
to load your soldiers on a ship you need to first select your solider or
soldiers
(if you select more then the ship will hold it does not matter the will
stop when the ship is full)
then hold down the control key while they are selected now with the ship
already at the loading dock or shore of the island. you click on that ship
and the soldiers will load in to that ship. when full just bring another
ship to the island and repeat the step.
after making or building a ship you need to select it and press the shift
and k keys to load the cannon on its deck. if you do not have the cheats
turned on you need to load the cannons in to the ships cargo hold
and then click on them in there to load them to the deck
if you load cannon in to the cargo hold on a ship thinking it will help in a
battle. it will not. because you need to click on the cannons in the cargo
hold to bring them to the deck. and this takes time. the cannons on the
deck never wear out anyway so there is no need for extra cannons.
i hope these help you i am in Texas so these do work on the American
version.

wow thats quite a list the USA version i think is the same one as the rest of the world ex europe so those cheats should work (PAL version) thanks for that at least now players wont get the brushoff by a smart AI on the harder levels lol.

I read all this posted messages and seens to me that the majority here is not favour to this cheating, but the game have some 'features' that can be used in special conditions , like a bug in a scenario or , some keys like f5,f6 that changes the speed of the game can be used in certains ocasions.Playing a multiplayer game i never accept for example changes the game speed! I consider that you are cheating if you are not able to complete some goals, and use this trick to finished easy way!
īThen why playing scen, letīs just play a continuous game
thatīs what i think,my personal thought
I love play Good Scenarios and complete them all :-) even with someone playing with me!!!!!

cheating in the single player game well if youre bored then for sure but in multiplayer all cheats should be able to be blocked.
There are things like single player continous game where if you cheat it can be interesting but otherwise leave it alone in multiplayer.
Still lets keep up with the new sceniros to those that are making them - for sure the small player base is an issue now days with the newer 1503 AD getting more attention but there are the core it seems around here who still like 1602 AD and still have copies of it so if you can make a good sceniro join the yahoo group and contribute it.

1. pressing the keys of : F5, F6, F7 will speed up the game for a short time then it goes back to normal, for hydroplaning speed you press the shift key and the F8 key at the same time, that is also for just a short time.
The "short time" is defined by certain incidents which might require immediate action by the player - e.g., draughts, fire, pirate or AI attacks, volcanoe eruptions. If the game speed would not be switched back to normal, the consequences might be uncomfortable for you: a sunken ship, destroyed buildings... So I think this switching back to normal speed is a necessary feature. ;)
BTW speeding up the game is no trick or cheat - it is a normal game functionality like zooming in/out and turning the buildings and the map. Shift+F8 might be accepted as a trick as it is not documented in the manual (the speeding up stepping is: F5 for normal, F6 for double, F7 for 4x, Shift+F8 for 8 x speed).
2. you can get more then one of the wagons from the warehouses by building one warehouse and then getting the wagon out. and then destroying the warehouse, and rebuilding a second one. this second one needs to be built outside of the first ones area of control. so you can only get as many as there is equal to the amount of unclaimed area from the warehouse or marketplaces on your island. it goes with out saying but (the bigger the island is the better chance you have a getting more wagons).
I didn't use this feature up to now, but I am a bit puzzled: If you destroy your warehouse, you do not have any "claimed" area left at that island. So, you should be able to build the warehouse at the same spot once more and get a new wagon - or just send the wagon somewhere and rebuild the warehouse at the original place.
However, I could not find a good reason for using that feature in a "normal" game (except for designing a scenario, of course) - a ship has much more storage. To save up tools, the 30t storage of one wagon should be enough - and as soon as you have built more than the warehouse at the relevant island, you will have to turn down everything to remove your initial warehouse... ;)

OK, people, enough off-topic here! It stops now.
AHHHH! Eric's taken over as mod again! RUNNNN!!!
Ahem. Since we all seem pretty set on our own interpretation on Cheats vs. In-Game Help, can we either move it to the Inn or agree to disagree?

I suppose the "sheep thing" is a cheat: It just seems too easy.;)
It ain't a cheat, nor did the programmers intend it that way, it's a flippin' bug, Einstein!

I have used this feature in a couple of scenarios. Legend of Xanandi (?sp?) was one where you build a warehouse and load the wagons with goods and then you destroy the warehouse and move the goods to a new one in an inaccessable area. I also have used it to trade with ai's who did not have a warehouse in an area that your ships could get to. You have to destroy the warehouse or they won't have a trade agreement with you. The wagon itself seems to have a hold of some sort on the area of the orginial warehouse. I also used it in big world to get goods from the inside of the island to the outside seas.

Ummm... One moment:
"The Legend of Xidani": You have to use the wagon there, but it will not leave the part of the island you called it to.
If you want to trade with an AI on its island, you cannot do it without having a warehouse there - or you will just have the 30t of you wagon after you destroyed your warehouse. So why trade then? ;)
And getting the goods out from the inner island... Why use the wagon for that? The goods are "beamed" between the market places... ;)
However, they play a very important role in Xidani as well as in the "Trade Caravane"... :)
B.t.w.:
@ roving cowboy - more than on each island if the warehouse is placed on the other islands' sid ?
That's great - didn't know it so far. And.. I think this feature is 'tricky'

OK, it's a bug, but using it is usually considered cheating, Einstein Jr.

Ummm... One moment:
"The Legend of Xidani": You have to use the wagon there, but it will not leave the part of the island you called it to.
Yes it will not leave the 'island' but I was then able to establish a new warehouse on the interior lake and supply the warehouse with goods from the wagon.
If you want to trade with an AI on its island, you cannot do it without having a warehouse there - or you will just have the 30t of you wagon after you destroyed your warehouse. So why trade then? ;)
The scenario required the AI to advance to a specific level and he needed the goods to do that. I also had 4 wagons on that island so the amount wasn't 30t but 120t. To be able to get a wagon for each warehouse (outside the area of the other now destroyed warehouses) allowed me to supply them with more goods per trade.
And getting the goods out from the inner island... Why use the wagon for that? The goods are "beamed" between the market places... ;)
However, they play a very important role in Xidani as well as in the "Trade Caravane"... :)
The goods are beamed between the marketplaces but the ships cannot trade with a marketplace they require a warehouse.

I have used this feature [...] to trade with ai's who did not have a warehouse in an area that your ships could get to.
Do you remember the name of that scenario? It sounds interesting... :)
