ok , but do the firewall change IP on internett? No.

Should i turn it of and then go on www.whatismyip.com ?No.

It is difficult to help you if you do not follow the instructions and then report the results, or tell us where your problem is.

For instance, it would be good to know if you and/or your friend are using a router or not. If you have no router but want to use a firewall you only need to open the ports that I mentioned. If you do not know how to do that, it could be explained. But I am starting to speculate ... so please be more specific.

Yes , tell me how its being done. And what is a router? When we try to play multiplayer , we cant find each other on the game, the problem isnt to connect to each other.

I dont know if i can be any more exactly

Sorry, I currently have no Micros**t system in front of me.

Anyway, what Windows version are you using, and what firewall? Perhaps somebody else could step in and explain how to open the ports...

I'm using Windows XP Service pack 2 , firewall SMC (symantec) [Barricade].So can anybody help?

This SMC Barricade is not just a firewall but a full-blown router.

You have to use your web browser to log on to the router and add the "Virtual Server" settings as described in your SMC manual. In addition you might have to open the ports in the Windows XP firewall. And note that your friend has to do the same on his side, depending on whether or not he uses a router and/or a firewall as well.

It is very difficult to explain all this in detail here, I think it would be better if you get somebody along who knows about it and could set up your router for you.

Hi,

I have 1602 AD, the American version, and my wife and I have been trying to get a multiplayer game to work over our LAN. It seems we can get as far as recognizing each others 'created groups' for an IPX connection, but we can't join the group either of us makes

I'm running WinXP Pro, and she's running WinXP Home.

Please help.

Hi ammon79, and welcome to the board! (Haven't forgotten my manners  )

Do not use IPX, try with the TCP/IP connection.

Hi, thanks for the reply...

We've tried that as well, with the same results.

Long story?
When I ungraded my computer's WinXP with Microsoft's SP2, my wife and I noticed that our LAN connection was acting up. Her computer is not connected to the internet. But our computers are connected with a 'cross-over' cable.
Anyways,
We both loaded 1602 AD and tried to play together, through a TCP/IP (IPX wouldn't work) connection, but the game would crash on us after about 15-25 minutes of play. Frusterated, I decided to remove SP2 off my comupter, thinking it wasthe cuase of our unsatable Home Network. In doing so I had to format my hard drive and reload everything. Bummer! When I finished, my wife and I tried again to connect. And now to our frustration we can't enev get a TCP/IP connection working. Our computers can recognize a created game, but cannot join.

Should I upgrade both computers to SP2 in order for the TCP/IP connection towork?

I should clarify, We were able to play when my computer was running with microsoft's SP2 for WinXP. My wife's computer DID NOT have SP2 installed, as she is not connected to the internet.

I suspect your problem is caused by the Windows integrated firewall whose settings were changed with SP2. Since you do not need a firewall on your internal network connection you should make sure that it is switched entirely off on your internal LAN adapter. Just be careful not to switch it off on your internet connection.

All this assumes that you have two network adapters on your computer, one for the internet and one for the internal LAN. If that is not the case, things will become difficult...

The firewall can cause problems between computers but it usually happens when you first try to connect. When you had the first problem, you were able to play for 15-25 minutes. Was someone firing cannons when you crashed? Do you have the videos on? My machine, win xp home with sp2, will crash when it trys to play the videos so I turn them off. Another solution if you are using the 1602 AD version is to play without the disk in.
