Like Sapkowski too, but prefer the short stories to his novels (the latter are too "heavy").

Also guys, if you like low fantasy and medieval intrigues (and I suspect you do, since you are here), there is no better series than George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire (the books published so far are called "Game of Thrones", "Clash of Kings" and "Storm of Swords").

Other favourite books include Herbert's "Dune" and Zelazny's "Chronicles of Amber".

bit too depressing, when you realize what is happening now :D Kafka is better. And then? what else can I mention? Baudelaire, Prachett, Tolkien, Umberto Eco, he's the best author of historical novells I guess

If Orwell is too depresing, what is Kafka then?!?!?
I wasn't able to read more than 30 pages of Der Prozes(The Process)

Have anybody else here met Franz Kafka?

Like Sapkowski too, but prefer the short stories to his novels (the latter are too "heavy") What do you mean by that? Book which took me the longest time I red no more than 2days (almost nonstop, because you can't stop reading when you start once) and it was the last one, "Pani jeziora", in czech "Paní jezera" with its 560 pages :D
I really like jumps in time

But, YES, I like also his short stories, OF COURSE!
