The hoster is working on it. His homepage was hacked by iraq&palaestina-loyalists.

All this talk about economics is making me feel really stupid.
I tried GoG 1.5 for the first time last night and couldn't make any money to literally save my life. I was playing as Normandy, which consists of one province and starts with a -5 deficit on income. I immediately built hunter huts so I could sell hides, but could never get more than +10 gold, and that was with all three royals acting as merchants and taxes on high. Normandy also has but one worker, so upgrades took forever...when I could afford them. I desperately tried to keep good relations, but France decided to gobble me up and attacked with two armies (yes, two) of men-at-arms and archers. I had one army with 4 Norman units and 5 peasants led by an inexperienced marshal. Needless to say I was creamed, besieged and crushed. Game over.
So, what's the trick to making money?

You need to have something to offer when you want to trade for gold.
So if you have no trade goods, you can't trade for money. If you've got lots of trade-goods, trading for money will give you a lot of money.
Small hint: You can import goods and use them to generate more money-income.
Medium hint: Exile your first marshall. At this stage you don't need a marshall and if you really need one, use one of your royals instead.
Big hint: Yes, very small nations are hard in GoG. But I like that :dwink: .

Angryminer - That medium hint is actually a big hint. Can you post the text of the changes you made to the various files in your mod, up here? That’s how I put to together the “hard mod”. I don’t have the time for modding and I’d like to try your mod before I give up playing KoH.
For whatever its worth - for one-providence kingdoms, my top 8 priorities are (in order):
1) Exile marshal
2) Assign royals as merchants (if 3 are available, one will govern as builder or farmer)
3) Find large trading partners (carefully considering my future plans of conquest)
4) Build Town Watch House (if not already built)
5) Build Training Grounds (if not already built)
6) Build Swordsmith
7) Build Swordsmen (filling all the garrison slots)
8) Hire a Marshal (as soon as I’m able to build my 7th swordsmen)
Other hints:
Never hire peasants (unless it’s a blue moon and the AI attacks your town)
Let them plunder while you build swordsmen.
Make up some story line about “the sleeping giant” while the countryside burns and then stomp their A** when you’re strong enough.

Sorry to say, but your hints don't work in GoG, Mc Gillicuddy.
With no trade-good to trade you won't get any revenue from trading.
Also, Training Grounds and the like will further lower your income because they require upkeep.
Also, you can't hire peasants in GoG-1.6.
The list of changes of GoG is available in this thread, the exact changes (line-per-line) can easily be found by using some patch-program. Writing them down here by hand would take me about 3 hours.
Angryminer
When you play a one province kingdom and don't have trade goods, open political view and look for kingdoms with a market, and then make trade agreements with them. Each market they have gives you a +1 gold.

I was thinking: copy and paste
I like the no peasant change. No trade item huh? Okay, but need that training ground.
So where exacty do I find your mod?

Initial feedback playing Normandy using the GoG 1.6 mod: (henceforth nicknamed the GoR mod (Glory of Rebels)
Well Angryminer, you have certainly slowed down us warmongers by curtailing the cash flow (I balk at the force building cost now). I had to change my early game strategy on the way to acquiring my conquering army. Also, I like the armory upgrade from training grounds (and the chain and plate armor upgrades that follow, similar to the hard mod).
The following is a short McGillicuddied version of an AAR
Brother Could You Steal A Dime?
Okay, nice job of making Normandy a vassal of France from the start. I had to wait for quite awhile (more than what was the norm) before claiming independence in order to be fully prepared for the French invasion. Soon after, it didn’t take me too long to figure out how to make a fast buck. I just stuck my prince on a horse, slapped his butt (the horse’s not the prince’s), and sent him out to pillage and plunder at 400 a pop (no other support but for the knights he traveled with). While the Comte from France was plundering one of my villages the prince raced across the border and burned a couple of his. When the Comte finished with mine, he laid tracks back to where the prince was, but by the time he got ľ of the way there the prince was finished and high tailed it back home. Of course, the Comte followed and assaulted my town where I had my full army of swordsmen and the town guards waiting to repulse him. After his retreat he went into camp so I pursued and destroyed his army and captured him. The only honorable thing to do with a 4-star Comte was hasten his desire to see the real glory of God - so I executed him. Off with his head!
Come, Come Comte
So meanwhile rebels are popping up on a regular basis because my risk for rebellion is astronomically high (50%). When they would get close (into the coastal village) I would send my marshal and his army out to destroy them then return to town and wait for the next Comte or rebel army. By now it suddenly dawns on me that I’m doing exactly what the AI always does – plunder. Can’t attack a town yet because I need more money so I have the prince (now pulling 2,500 coins) continue doing his best jack-a-lope impression by running around the French countryside, pillaging, plundering and proclaiming “as fast as you be, you can’t catch me”. But of course, one after another, each Comte tries and on the way back to town (with a Comte and his shoeless swordsmen trudging along after) the prince would have time to stop for some ale at several of the local pubs (the queen wasn’t happy). At some point the prince stumbles back into town with the Comte on his heels and French are beaten back yet again. Funny, but after his defeat, this Comte decides to chase the rebels, who by this time have decided to cross into French territory a terrorize them.
Coming soon . . .
Either the French king will squeal with a blade through him (honor that) or these gosh darn rebels will own Europe before I even get a chance to conquer one French town. Sober up prince - back on your horse, we need more money!

Small hint: Each pillaged zone will raise the rebel-risk because the people don't like to be burnt down without the king helping them. Also the zones are pretty important because without zones you town will produce about nothing.
But you already gave me a nice idea about modding the buildings for GoG-1.7:
All town-bonuses should be distributed among the zones, so when the zones are burnt the town won't produce even 1 food per turn. That way you'd have to defend your zones just like the AI always tries to.
Nice feedback! Thank you very much! :go:

Here’s the wrap up . . .
Rebels, Rebels Everywhere
The Sack n’ Jack dance in France continued, with rebel armies swarming the countryside like ants at a picnic. When word came from home that the King up and died the new king, Duke Casin the Great Enforcer, immediately decided that it was time to attack Ille de France. All went well, and after a short siege and a quick assault, Paris fell. What followed was most unfortunate. It seems that the loyalists rebel dogs where not happy with my conquest – gee, go figure – and I’d swear no less than 3 rebel armies sprung up throughout the countryside (hard to count ants). But worse, Rouen fell into the hands of Bretagne loyalists (which I admit I didn’t even know existed in place of Brittany :bash: ). I went from a 1 providence kingdom to 2 and then back to 1 in the time it took me to say “McGillicud . . .”. Well, back to Normandy went my marshal (easy fight to reclaim Rouen) and back to plundering went the new king. By then, there were so many rebel armies that finding villages to sack were hard to come by. Btw, I noticed that villages were returning at a faster rate after being plundered (one rebel’s target is another prince’s cash cow).
High Ho, High Ho, It’s Off To War I Go
Seems that this new mod likes to fractionalize Europe into many smaller kingdoms. Well. Okay, I just needed to avoid picking a fight with Italy so I formed an alliance with them (hey I know how to share – one for him, two for me). The bigger decision was how to handle two wars and those darn ants. First things first, those rebels had to go so the tedious task of reducing their numbers was top priority. Several times I ran up against a rebel army so strong that I was forced to withdraw in order to spare my highly experienced marshal but eventually their numbers dwindled (there should be a deduction for waving the white flag – he who giveth can taketh away). Next stop was that upstart kingdom of Bretagne. I demand vassalage (my goal is that darn French king after all) but the Duke tells me to go blow, so I have little choice but to liberate the former kingdom of Brittany. For that conquest, I needed the Great Enforcer to lead a second army. When Bretagne fell, the Great Enforcer dropped his army into garrison and resumed his career while Marshal Oliver went about claiming French providences.
Your Mine, Mine, All Mine
One by one the French providences fall under my control until there are but two. Finally, during the assault of Aquitania, the French king is captured. I would have preferred his death in battle (I know he would have too). Now I had to play God (hmmm). For that, I needed some food from the kitchen (no need to pause – they’re just ants). Upon my return, I generously decide to leave the French the providence of Languedoc, offer them a white peace (Italy had already made them a vassal), and behead their king (whoops  ). Soon after the French king met his demise, the beloved (speaking for myself) tyrant (speaking for Europe) of Normandy Duke Casin “The Great Enforcer”, dies (fitting end). Europe sighs in relief. By now, the new Duke (son of Casin) leads and army of feudal knights and calls himself the Orkin man. Game over.

Wether rebels are a problem or not is up to you. When actions are chosen wisely they aren't a problem at all.
In my recent game (today) with Muscowy I found out that some of my decisions were rather unwise..
In "High" I quickly conquered Kazan and removed them from the map. Just minutes later my ally Ryazan declared independency from Golden Horde, so I followed them into war and declared independency myself. After all, Muscowy was to rise to the Russian empire (so I thought).
Shortly after this rebels conquered the province of Twer north of Muscowy and laid claim upon the eastern province Jaroslavl, a province of former Kasan. It was recaptured before Twer could seize the town-authorities and a white peace was established.
Then my king attacked the pagan territory of Chernigow under great sympathy of Ryazan, but was driven out by two pagan armies and forced into the defense of Smolensk. Under great losses and nearly suffering a defeat I managed to hold the city and had to reinforce in the northern province of Moskow. Upon arrival there the heathens launched another attack, this time aimed at the city of Polatsk. Instead of caring about the rebels in the former Kazan territories I had to intervene there and fought the pagans on my home-territory.
Just after a decisive victory there rebels assaulted the defenseless town of Smolensk, conquering it against all my defense-attempts and claiming Chernigow for them. This moment I realized that rebels in Kasan were just going to attack the city and I hastily recruited 6 squads of swordsmen (god bless the ability to ransom for prisoners, that saved this province!) and I was able to defend the town, leaving exactly 7 swordsmen (of formerly 270 swordsmen, the 90 townguards were completely slaughtered) alive in the town. You can't imagin the weight that fell of my shoulders when at last the enemy knight fell from his horse.
Now I have signed peace with golden horde and hope that I can soon recapture Smolensk, though that should be a rather tough task...
I didn't know my mod was that hard... *sigh*
In GoG small nations have lots of problems. Bigger ones are more stable and tend to eat the small ones.

Hmm, nice mod! But the rebels are a bit of a problem... to the AI. At least in the games I played. Seems like every country gets killed by their own rebels. Maybe because rebels are alot stronger and income is alittle too slow - whenever I invade someone, his province will have only 1 or sometimes 2 marshals with no soldiers. And lots of rebels running around burning.
