I also want to thank to all the countries who've sent us help, especially the Czech repoublic, which has sent over 100 mln. Euro from an SMS-campaign.
people here feel solidarity with every country which is seriously damaged by floods...
we know what it is to have apocalyptic floods. Almost everybody in my country experienced floods. Moravians in 1997 when almost entire Moravia was flooded, Bohemians in 2002 when only 2 of 10 Bohemian regions were left untouched by floods...
so everybody had at least some friend or relative who was endangered(river Elbe culminated 1meter below my grandma's floor), over 200.000 people were evacuated in 2002, 2 villages lost 70% of houses

so Czechs are solidaire.. but still I think it was 100mln CROWNS rather than EURO. Even 100mln Crowns are quite much...

yeh, I agree, it is somehow suspicious,

Traveller, What is the source of this gossip about 100 mio?

Bulgarian National Television. And they also mentioned that Czechs know what is flood (mainly about the 2002 ones). But I'm sure they said that there is an SMS campaign and that the Czech repoublic is sending us 100 mln. Euro. Maybe not from this campaign and maybe not in money (but in materials maybe, most of the countries sent us materials like medicines, pumps etc.), but I'm sure they said Euro (besides, most Bulgarians don't know the index of the Crown, so it would be useless to say it in Crowns...)

Well, yes, the SMS campaigns are very popular here...
many money was collected after the Tsunami last christmass...

and if also Government gave some money(what's very likely to be true) it could make that sum... but you know, it would mean everybody has sent at least 10 SMS(1 such SMS costs 30 CZK. If 10millions sent it, it would make 3billCZK=100mln EU)

Yeah, we had such campaigns after the tsunami, too. And not only - there are many charity SMS campaigns, like "The Bulgarian Christmas" for sick kids, who need transplantations or expensive medicines and such. It's actually a somewhat funny thing - we're supposed to be poor, but more than half the people have cell phones and use them often. In Sofia even some old people (above 60) and little children (1st and 2nd grade) have cells! That's why I always say that we're not poor, we just don't spend as much as we'd like. But that's offtopic...

Yeah, there are many such campaings - but I'm pretty sceptic about the last station for collected money. So I think, better campains are about materials, clothes, etc. than money.
many times happend that such money ended in the hands of different suspicious individuals....and this i do not like.

Let us see, how much was collected for tsunami and how much was gives to those lands and how much was given for the people directly influenced by floods?

Haha, same here. I sent some SMS for the kids (there's a TV show ("Slavi's show", at that time the most popular one), where the host reported all the spent money, where they went, to which kid and for what. But that was only in the first year, because he was "co-patron" of the campaign together with the President. The second year he wasn't "patron", so there weren't any reports in his show. Now there's another campaign for the floods, but as my mother said: "I'm sending nothing, because it will all go in the gypsies hands", especially now since the minority party is in control of the crisis HQ. That's why materials are indeed a better help (although there were still reports that the Gypsies have imediately sold all they received, including blankets, and now they want more)!
Btw isn't it interesting - when the tsunami hit and it was time for collecting money there was so much noise in the media. And now most people have already forgotten there was ever a tsunami, not to mention anything about the money!

We've a flood now too here in Switzerland, from friday evening/ saturday morning saturday morning it didn't stop to rain, or only for short time. But I think in comparison with the ones in Bulgaria and Romania it's just a small ting.
But there are already two victims, two fire brigarders were killed by an earthslide...

First Bulgaria and Romania were flooded, now - South Germany, Switzerland and Austria, while Portugal's burning! This weather is really going nuts!

Btw I guess it really was 100 mln. Crones, not Euro, that the Czech repoublic has sent us. Because 100 mln. Euro would cover a lot and the medias would surely speak more about it.

I saw the news last night about the flooding in Switzerland and Germany, this is distressing, coupled with the flooding in Romania and Bulgaria. Let's hope and pray that these rains will stop soon and that the flooding will not spread to other countries.

Hey, I hear there's some very serious flooding in Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary. How's the situation there? I hope it's not so serious!

fortunately the situation here in Czechia is not as serious as 4 years ago.

But the fact is that every bigger river now causes floods. The witer was long and very snowy and when it started to be warmer it started to rain all around the country so the snow thawed very fast.. anc because Bohemia is surrounded by mountains from all sides, not a single river was able to catch all the water inside it's normal flow...

actual damage is estimated only for about 2 billions of CZK (about 60 million EUROS) and it will increase a little in south Moravia and northern Bohemia, but not much...

in 2002 the damage only in Prague was over 8 billions CZK so this year flood is finally not as hard as the last one.

Fortunately people learned from previous floods so they leave their homes when they are asked to, and barriers are being built in time so they mostly stop the water. If we were not taught by previous floods, the damage would be probably about 5 times worse...

Here, there are also floods. But not just only that, but the ground started sliding, and houses and roads are just falling apart. It's said that 30% of Serbia is endangered. Current damage is 11 million €. At my grandparents house the stairs have separated from the house.

Germany was also nearly flooded.
Bad tongues say that the water had to go back into the river because there are no elections in germany and thus no politicians need publicity...

sadly this is not our case and politicians are everywhere as we have elections in march.

btw, I have just red in an article about heigth of damae in 2002 here, it was 73 billions CZK (24billions €) what is 37x more than this year. Though, as said, this flood is the most massive (as it hits entire Czechia), but doesn't cause much damage because of experienced people

the winter turned to spring too rapidly...(and too late)
