I heard in news that there are floods in western and south-western Bulgaria + in northern Greece. Anyone from Bulgaria has some more info?

I heard something about 10.000 people being evacuated...
I hope it won't be such terrible like floods in Romania just month ago or floods in my country in 2002. It was terrible.

My sympathies to all Bulgarians who have lost their homes...

floods in Romanie were not so big as was presented. Reporters team from TA3 proved it. It was a big fake from Romanian Premier Minister. Instead of 70 % flooded country was realy less then 20%.

BACK TO TOPIC:

Yeah, 10 000 people have been evacuated so far. And this is the third big floods in Bulgaria for the last three months! Many homes have been destroyed, not to mention the live and agricultural stock of the farmers. Actually, I've been to my grandparents for the last few days, to help them save what they could from their fields. Horrible! Three floods in a row... I even saw in the news one woman saying that they just recovered and repaired their house from the first flood and now even a greater flood came and destroyed it! Future isn't "pink" for us... Not at all...

South-Western Bulgaria, including the region of Sofia. The Black Sea coastline has been spared by all of the three floods (afaik)...

don't you know if the main road Solun-Sofia-Belgrade is damaged?

Traveller

Probably. Most of the roads in the flooded regions are heavily damaged. In some places the water was 5m. high, so... But on the other hand, this is an important road, so it should already be repaired if it was damaged at all.

does it mean the water has already fallen down?
that's good news for all...

In some places the water's down. In other - not. Depends on the terrain, the scale of the flood, the precautions (dikes), repair works (draining) etc. For now, afaik, nearly 10 people have died from the beginning of the last floods and the financial casualties come up to this time to more than 1 milliard levs (~half a milliard Euro or ~700 million Dollars). And, of course, the numbers are increasing...

I've also heard some time ago (the second or first floods) that our climate might be changing to tropical. Well, at least we'll have palm trees everywhere...

Btw I've found one site of the Bulgarian National Television about the floods (http://bgflood.bnt.bg/) with some pictures and videos (haven't checked them yet)...

I also heard of floods in Lithuania, too. What's going on with this weather?!

it's new inter-Ice-age comming, supported by human activities (so it together mirrors in Global warming)

I rather think its natural crisis then a completley new iceage. Nature evilness crisis have always existed but such a breakthrough as iceage IMO it wont happen , earth is too old for that we only got a some milion years to live before the sun becomes a dead one and falls.

I don't think it is a crisis.

It's natural circulation.
There are iceages(warm periods) and inter-iceages(cold periods)
It is known that in 12th and 13th century there was inter-iceage(very warm period-which btw caused demographical explosion in Europe)
then 14-16th century was a mini iceage - cirsis of the Late medieval Europe
16th -18th century was then again warmer and since half of 18th century to 20th centuiry clima was little colder.
Now it is natural that clima is becomming warmer...

PS: this circulation is recognizable far further in history, I just gave short excursion... also some changes are more drastical of course...

the situation about floods seems to be dramatical in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Balear Isles,... :bawling:

the situation about forest fires is dramatical in Portugal and Spain...

hm bad times, very bad times... :nono:

update for swiss: two fireman died in floods  , the army part responsible for nature catastrophe was called, some railways connections are disable, and it should still rain next two days. Today, 100 liter per m2 should fall down in some regions in Swiss.

Yeah, and in Romania 16 people have died so far (10 drowned and 6 hit by lightings from the storm), 1600 are left homeless. In Bulgaria 1400 people are also left without homes. And those fires in Portugal...

I also want to thank to all the countries who've sent us help, especially the Czech repoublic, which has sent over 100 mln. Euro from an SMS-campaign.

no 100 ml Crowns? 100 ml Euro is pretty high and I do not believe it

Traveller

Well, that's what the news said...

Edit: 100 mln. is not from the SMS campaign, or at least not all of it. 100 mln. is all what the Czech repoublic has sent, not only the campaign!
