View Full Version : Daemon Tools (Once More)
I realize that there are many topics on ALL three websites for this game, but none of them have helped me in the least bit.
I bought Knights of Honor at BestBuy about a week ago, and it worked fine on my laptop (I was on vacation). But now that I am home, it wont go on my desktop...
Yes I know, I get the same error as everyone else
"Daemon Tools is installed but locked! Please unlock daemon..." Blah... But you see, I had never even heard of Daemon-Tools before I got this game. My system is 100% free of any of their software or files... It's just giving me this error... Not a single e-mail I have sent has been responded to, and it seems as if administrators on the forums are not quite sure what's going on... If anyone could help me at all, I would appreciate it.
Thank You!

I'm not sure but make sure you have no virtual device active and no daemon.dll/-.bak in your windir/sysdir.
(and the latest game-version 1.3!?)
v1.3.. and I dont have any daemon.dll or daemon.bak installed on my C drive at all... I dont get it...

I suggest you install daemon tools and remove it.
I will try and tell you what happends...
That definently didn't work. I installed it correctly and it just crashed my computer. Anytime I would log onto ANY user it would crash it... I dont know what to do. After successfully uninstalling it completely, I still get the original error... This is so frustrating... $40.00 for all these problems really bites... Any help is appreciated and thanks for the suggestions...

That's hard for you, and me to believe.
I'm not a supporter/expert for daemon-tool. (The last hope is always format C:!!!)
But we do not want to give up, so give us more specifics from your pc-machine.
Windows-version?
Burn-software?
More user?
Why Daemon-Tool chrashed, Error-message??
Has you found some more people with this problem?
turned on "show hidden files"?
...
Sell it!
"That's hard for you, and me to believe."
What? Are you calling me a liar? I installed Daemon Tools and everytime I would boot my computer up it would say "Loading Daemon-Tools.." and then my comp would restart. I dont appreciate you calling me a liar. I know more about computers than you do, I'm sure. I've coded two computer games, and own an online gaming company with a full staff.
http://www.ebonheart.com/ is one of ours that we are working on,
and http://www.ebonheart.com/delrith/index.html is another.
If you're going to be rude then please dont try to help me, otherwise any help is appreciated.

Sorry, for my rude words (i get also today a rebuke in my school).
I meant "hard believe" at meaning of a mystery thing, not that you are liar.(english is not my mother-tongue)
The only one wich can sure help you is the developer of this security-system.
I'm realy the last friend of format C:, but is a solution.
I'm also not a friend of unsolved riddle, I hope you found a solution.
The strange fact is that I had Daemon Tools installed and it gave no problems at all. Actually, in a dark past, I used to run an illegal version of KoH with DaemonTools
But now, it just crashes your pc. Hm. That means it corrupts with something else. Do you run Windows, Linux or MacOs? Anything 64 bit isn't supported btw.

The problem with some programmes is that, when you uninstall them they don't really uninstall. They leave little phantom programmes on there. Sounds like what is happening with Daemon tools. (Both AOL and Microsoft are NOTORIOUS for doing this!)
Sounds like there is an incomplete uninstall (regarless of what the programme is telling you). I've heard of Daemon tools buggering other programmes as well.
There are a couple of solutions, both tedious but necessary.
First, the tedious but short.
Start->Run. Type MSCONFIG and press <Enter>
Click on the Startup tab. On that list, you'll have to find which file is associated with daemon tools. (Good luck.) Untick the box(es) and restart. That will prevent any legacy daemon tools from running. There is actually some web sites out there which will identify a lot of file names and tell you whether or not they are necessary to running your computer. Don't recall what any of them are, though. :(
If that doesn't work, then you have a tedious, long, and possibly hard solution.
It's possible that something else is accessing a daemon tool file or (God forbid!) registry key.
If that is the case, you'll have to manually seach and destroy any file and/or regestry key for daemon tools. If this is the case, it just might be easier to reformat. And don't ever install Daemon tools again!
I'm certain other people may have better/easier solutions. But there's my two pence.
Best,

ok so the new patch will fix this problem how long intill the new patch comes out?
I'm not sure IF a new patch will come out and not whether that patch will include a solution for this neither...
Do you play KoH on an account with administrator rights?

Disable Anti-Virus-program: See Anti-Virus-program-manual
Disable Daemon-Tools "lock": See Daemon-Tools-manual.
(You should note the pattern here... )
Some more words on Daemon-Tools (from here on abbrevated as: d-tools):
KoH's copy protectiong manually disables d-tools when the d-tools are set in "lock dll"-mode. That means no other program, like KoH, may ask the d-tools which CD-image is mounted. Then, when KoH is not allowed to see wether the KoH-CD is mounted in d-tools it moves the daemon.dll to daemon.bak to disable d-tools and make sure the KoH-CD isn't mounted in d-tools.
If the "lock dll"-mode is disabled the KoH-copy protection will kindly ask d-tools wether it has mounted the KoH-CD, and if it isn't the game can be played with d-tools in the background. I daily play KoH with d-tools running in the background just fine. They propably aren't friends, but they get along.

Not at all, how can you dare to such a thing! I am the most friendly person alive. I actually have no electric light in my apartment because I glow mildly from kindness.
