Well actually the warfare still takes a back seat, the economy and empire building is still the main emphasis!
Right, the war-part is more like in 1602. And that's a good thing :go:

it was going to bew Anno Wars awhile back.
About Anno War is at the moment nothing known. 1701 is actually the Anno War, but the decided to make a "real" Anno and not a "war-anno".

ANNO 1701 is not an ANNO War!

First of all it is an Empire Building Simulation - you can fight if you want to but it is not a pure RTS game.

Related Designs focused on economy, exploring, trade and diplomacy with an option to fight. Its impossible to have everybody happy with this decision but we think it is the best way to get most of the people satisfied. RD really spend some time to listen to the voice of the community by doing the game design for 1701 but it is like a democracy. The majority is happy but some people have other opinions (and thats totally OK).

To have Anno 1701 any other way than what it is(and I mean to have it as a war game) would not be Anno.
For those that like war games, there are war games. What attracted the majority of us to Anno in the first place is what it was an empire building, city simulation type game with a hint of military strategy built in.

ANNO 1701 is not an ANNO War!
I hope you don't refere to me, because that's what i actually meant
I just wanted to say, that Sunflowers first wanted to make Anno War, before another (economically) Anno should be released, but they decided, to make a "real"(=Empire Building Simulation) Anno.
(i've read this some months/years ago, but i also can be wrong with this. You should know this better, André  )

And last but not least, i want to say THANK YOU for a "real"-Anno and not for a War-Anno

@Slocket:

I don't think we can talk about warfare in Anno1701, because this game isn't c&c, sc or wc3 alike you know. Compared to other RTS Games, its not such a "destruction" game.

Have you ever tried Settlers2-TNG? Anno1701 and Settlers2-TNG has the same thing common. They don't have advanced warfare, but Settlers2 is more a streetbuilding game. There is nothing you must manage manually excepting to set buildings, to create roads and to give attack order for your cute soldiers. ^^

As Flo already mentioned:
You have to build an empire and know how to handle trade, production chains and a lot more. Ofc war is also a part of this game, but it's not expected to support special warfare.

Well as you already know, its still possible to lead cruel wars. ^^ Your handicap: It cost you a lot of money and goods.

However, if another player leaves, his buildings don't disappear. Those buildings can be captured by another player.

Ok it is not so focused on war, which is fine with me; I rather have the deep economy and empire building. But I do not see the deep economy as was in 1503. It is different and maybe there lies the challenge.

Anyway, the economy seems to be simplier. Maybe that was to give the AI a chance. Making money in 1701 is more like taxes levied as was in 1602 than plain selling in a market as was in 1503. I think 1503 was superior for that deep economy. Maybe it was too hard?

It would seem that AI is more intelligent and more diplomatic in 1701. There is more interesting research in 1701 than previous games. Free Trader quest are fun.

But I still say the raw economic gameplay for 1701 was simplified in some areas quite a bit, but has been improved alot in others. We now have random disasters and more interaction via diplomacy (either paying tribute (appeasement), subterfuge, or war) with the Anno World.

Have not played the new Settlers II TNG, I thought it was to be released in the USA> of course most people in the USA seem "too challenged" [politically correct term?] to play such a deep game.
---------------------
I played Anno 1701 demo through again, alot faster and more research, 90 minutes is barely enough to get into it:

Sum it up. Anno 1701 is different, but overall pretty good. I will buy it! It has not "All I Want", but good enough fun! :hello:

I hope it does come with some kind of random map /editor.

The waiting time drives me crazy you know. ^^
I preordered the limited box, but I'm just counting the last hours before it releases.
I feel like a little child, who get his birthday and christmas presents at same time.

.......
Yes and no

Yes, there are less goods/... what makes it simplier
No, all the goods have to be provided to your people the whole time (i think) :go:

Maybe they get them from Carmen! JK
But Carmen was raised by pirates and is their friend.

Just like in it's predecessor's the pirates just keep moving into the area. There may possibly be a setting in the full game that will keep them from reappearing once they have been defeated, hopefully anyway.
