Is there war in Anno 1701?

I can see some troops and a iron mine in the E3 trailer.

Has the food/good chains been dumbed down to make it 'more accessable' ?

Can you still expand by 'conquer thy neighbor'? It is the setting of exploration and empire.

Yes, there will be war in 1701.

Concerning the goods: I think the amount of goods will be more than in 1602 and less than in 1503.

There will be production chains and you will be able to start a war in ANNO 1701.

How about the troops? I hope there will be a small amount of different troops because 1503 really confused me with all the diversity. I hope it will be like 1602 with maybe a little expansion, musketeers, cannons. Maybe militia? I guess these 3 units can create easy battles in this game.

Is there anymore information about it?

(the militia sounds great lol, it just got up to me. In times of war it will be cheap to train militia but it will have effect on your population because men will be brought to fight. They will have easy weapons and swords, able to fire a round to the enemy and storming to them.)

I read that there were only going to be 3 types of trrops in 1701. I'm hoping for cannoneers(or mortars, either one), archers and maybe swordsmen or musketeers.

There will be 3 types of troops: infantry, cavalry and artillery/cannons.

You don't control single units anymore, a unit of infantry consist of 9 men, cavalry and artillery of 4.
These units can be grouped together to bigger units and you can give them orders like "Escort" or "Patrol".

Is that like rise of nations game. Each unit had three men. You didn't control each of them you just controled the unit. Also as the health of the unit dropped so did the men. 3 men, 2men, then 1 man. If the unit was healed the lost men would come back.

I got new details from a games magazine. It seems that these types infantry, cavalry and artillery consist of together 7 different units.

The basic infantry unit is called militia, cheap and weak, available with settler level, needs no special ressources. Then you have the pikemen, of course most effective against cavalry and an infantryman, in german called "Grenadier". He is a long distance fighter with grenades but with his sabre he's also usable for close combat.

For the cavalry you have the dragoon and a kind of lancet man (In german it's called "Lanzierer", i couldn't translate it). This lancet man is heavy armored, the dragoon is light and fast.

Artillery consists of the mortar and howitzer. The howitzer has more range and firing strength but is very slow.

I just received information that there are EIGHT individual types of soldiers:

Militia, cannon, grenadier, dragoon, mortar, lancer (a 17th century transition from the armoured knight to the cuirassier), pikeman, and one unidentified that will probably be a fusilier/musketeer type of inf.

The last type is my personal favourite.

At sea, there are five different classes of vessels: two sizes of tradeship, an exploration ship, and two sizes of war vessels.

The exploration ship is cross betweent the two services; able to perform basic gunboat operations and conduct some commercial activities.

I will create operational doctrine (It is my hobby to treat an Anno game like a real empire, with spreadsheets and data to record the Glories of my virtual Empire; my favourite specialty is doctrinal use of soldiers and ships. i.e. strategy and tactics for combat situations.) for these units once I get the game.

According to todays update there are only 7 troop types (http://www.anno1701.com/launch/index.php?lg=en&l1=aufbau&l2=kaufleute&l3=gebaeude&l4=festung)

And the large trading ship was introduced today.
And from previous updates we discovered that the tradeships are completely defenseless, because they are unarmed.

Thanks, I just saw that. No musketeer, that is unfourtunate. Well maybe in an add-on.

Your warships can escort your trade vessels, yes! But there is not a ship with that soecific duty.

Gosh, I am answering my own question. Been years. lol I did not remember posting this thread.

It would seem the forums have changed. I was known as Saltz. Hi, Dobber -been awhile. :)

I played the German demo, and I am not *that* impressed sorry to say.

It has been simplified. Other areas are improved though. The fertility of land is no longer a function. A farm will grow 100% no matter where you place it? The production chains have been reduced it seems. Pioneers use to like the animal skin hides where Settlers would want cloth from cotton field or sheep. Now there is only one 'cloth' for all from one source.

There is no more small separate market places to sell your goods. It is all combined into one big 'Marketplace'. No more changing the price of goods sold to your Anno sims or amount. The basic economy has been changed alot it would seem. The upgrade sytem is simplified. Again I wonder if you played the demo yet.

The placement of mines are now very restricted to 'spots' on the map instead just anywhere next to a mountain. There is no more exploring the island with your explorer -its gone.:nono:

Have you played the German demo? Am I wrong?...since my German is still not up to par.

Graphics are better but too busy for me. I prefer the more clean simple graphics of 1503. Going 3D I think IMHO went too crazy with all the animations going on.

Gameplay has been dumbed down ALOT, I hope it is made up for maybe in the warfare aspects which never really worked in 1503.

Yup Anno went the same way loads of games have already went. Still it's better then some other games

True enough. I think because going to 3D presents unique challenges to implement.

I am hoping the warfare part of the game will make up for the simpler economy. We will be so busy with warfare aspects and diplomacy to not micromange the economy.

Anno games I thought especially for 1503 was a real challenge to build up an empire. I assume this 1701 will have more war in it (it was going to bew Anno Wars awhile back).

This maybe a good thing or bad, depending upon your bias.

Attacked some players in the demo, nothing special, apart from the aid the Queen can send

Well actually the warfare still takes a back seat, the economy and empire building is still the main emphasis!
