For some strange reason, the past week I've been playing KoH fine; Destroying countries etc. etc.... and then all of a sudden, today I try to play and it automatically closes as soon as I open the game, it doesn't even go to a splash screen, I tried a restart but to no avail, help please.

Are you guys using Windows XP, by any chance?

Yes - - Speaking for myself -- - I am using XP (service pack 2 with latest fixes)

Yeah I have the same thing... UGH I WANNA PLAY SO BAD >_< I MUST CONQUER ENGLAND AGAIN AS IT HAS RISEN FROM IT'S ASHES. Oh before anyone asks, I reinstalled twice and it still doesn't work.

Okay, I think that's the source of this. I have the same problem, and I also recently installed Windows XP updates. It's the only major system change I've made since the last time the game was working correctly. I guess you guys could try doing a System Restore or something.

Bull****e... I hate system restores -_-... I have too many things installed that I use.. and afterwards I'd have to reinstall all of them because the registry is reset too. =\

In fact, one of you guys do a system restore and give me the outcome.

Yes - this is very strange. I still have no solution to this issue. I assume we will see more players with the same problem very soon. But like you guys -- I really want to finish my game.

I sort of hope someone steps in and finds a sure way to fix it..

Yeah, System Restore is a pain. I'm hoping that either a new patch or a new set of Windows updates fixes this.

Today I've came upon this problem too. I was preloading my saved game and the game closed itself. Well, I attribute everything to the machine, on which you are playing. You know that for every game or program there are some requirements, so if your system is fulfiled all of them, there shouldn't be any problems. For example, the system requirements for KoH are:

Minimum Configuration:
- Windows® XP, Windows® ME, Windows® 2000, Windows® 98 Second Edition
- 1 GHz Intel® Pentium® III or AMD® Athlon™ processor
- 256 MB RAM
- 8x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
- 1.2 GB free hard disk space plus space for saved games
- 16 MB video card with 1024x768 resolution
- DirectX 9.x compatible sound card
- Keyboard
- Mouse

Recommended:
- 1.5 GHz or faster Intel® Pentium® IV or AMD® Athlon™ processor
- 512 MB or more RAM
- CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive 16x or faster

Required for multiplayer games:
- Subscribed internet service with an ISP
- 56 Kbps or faster modem
- ISDN
- Broadband internet connection (DSL, cable modem , or faster)
- TCP/IP compliant network
I can say that I have got the required RAM (256MB) but that isn't enough, especially when I've installed many games and programs which are taking the most of the RAM memory. To play the game I have to close all of the running programs, etc... Till my game was shut, I haven't played, so later when I run the .exe, I'll tell you if that was a bug of the game or a major problem.

EDIT:
As far as I can see, for myself the problem is in the memory I have. I've just finished playing KoH and I was saving my game when I received a message which says that I'm OUT OF MEMORY. I'm happy that I had the chance to save my game. :) I don't know if you have good or bad RAM memory but at least you can check. ;)
C ya...

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with bad RAM, I have 512 and I don't have any problem with games except lagging and stuff, I seriously need to get another gig stick... My last one turned out to defective and I had to format my PC like 3 times before I found out it was the RAM... but that was way before I discovered KoH so that's not a problem.

I don't think this is a RAM problem. I have 2GB of Ram --and this issue just started.

Additionally, I have now tried this on 2 systems with (one with 2GB and one with 1GB of Ram). Both have the exact same behavior.

This is a really frustrating problem. Anyone have any additional news?

Did you all try to re-install the game or check whether all necessary files are there for KoH?

Havent played for a while, today i went to play a bit and the game doesnt even start....

Ive checked, ive got the patch installed and ive even reinstalled the game but nothing.

Im guessing this has something to do with XP autoupdates.

Ive installed in my older pc, not XP updated, and it runs just fine - this leads to the conclusion that some late XP crap has disabled the game from launching.

Ugh... Did you all try to re-install the game or check whether all necessary files are there for KoH? That's the first thing I did. Ive installed in my older pc, not XP updated, and it runs just fine - this leads to the conclusion that some late XP crap has disabled the game from launching. I think you're right, I just wish there was some way to reset the updates back to a previous version. Without formatting or system restoring.

Ha, well I can say that I'm with XP SP 2, all updates and it works perfect and I don't have problems with the RAM any more. ;) I'm not agree with you. It depends on the system on which you are trying to run the game.
