I think there should be a close up of a knight, or group of knights in armor riding their horses.

the most important is to look different to other games. sounds easy, but isnt it - obviously.
different can be:
size
shape
graphic design (pictures, font, etc.)
smell :D
material (e.g. strucure of the box)
please not "more of the same"...
for am mediaeval game i prefer mediaeval design. well, no wooden chest, but maybe in shape and graphic design - maybe i will specify it more detailled another day...

I agree...I would also see something of artistic and not Computer graphic. I mean ...I like computer graphic on cover (your cover Lady is wonderfull ) but I would prefer something more prestigious...more antique and just beauifull like...like...like a great old book ....I would love it.
God guide your hands! ;)
:go: great ideas over here
horses will be cool
i like old book style too
go on ... more of this great ideas :)

Thx dear and honorable Lady... :P
I think that a PC game could be also a good looking box to expose in my castle! :D
...maybe between my old books collection! :)

I don't think it needs to be "medieval" looking or anything fancy like that. I just think they need to do a good job on the artwork for the cover.

A bunch of kngihts who stands and fight, 1 kngiht break formation and get swarmed, getting dragged down by polearms.
In background, there should be a siege, camera angle from the parapet, watching how soldiers scale the ladder other places, sigetowers land the men, storming out.
I wil prefere more a king standing on a hill and observing a battle. It's not battle simulation like M:TW, but more kingdom strategy, so something which includes it too. Like his vassal on his knees infront of king on a throne/a horse offering his daughter to him. And as background there can be great siege with towers etc.

...a horse offering his daughter to himMaybe you should edit this a bit to make clear what you meant ;) .

her some examples of examples of mediaeval graphic style.
they show style, not content!

http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/~a9552301/mediaeval/picc1x.jpg
i repeat: please not more of the same (@ hulkster :D ) but a unique artwork! create the one box, that catchs the eyes at first...
the questions are: which game artwork do you remember? which artwork called your attention? which artwork caused you to look at a game and buy it?
Hm,if I know how to put drawing into the some site,I could fantasize how it can look like and draw it...:rolleye:
Drawings of Middle ages can be background of the cover, but I think it have to be composed with not-authentic detalis (like scenes from the game, knights drawn by computer or some like this)
It is a good thread,very important,so thanks,LadyH!;)
You're right, timurlenk and Heretic.
The cover must tie your eyes to it. Maybe some medieval drawing can do it...
to correct my suggestion before..
a kïng sitting on a horse or on a throne and offering his daughter to some other king or knight with battle in background. Maybe it can be all drawn in medieval style? ;)
...or why not let KoH team to use their own imagination? :D

Maybe a bit of that French tapestry thing forgot the name (something like bayeaux tapestry) thats depicts the battle of hastings and other things in french history! If that's not authentic then what is???
