View Full Version : Forum language/Forum Sprache
Hi, I'm wondering
I'm under an impression that the forum is more and more germanized. Is it just my impression or is it true?
-------------------
Hallo, ich frage mich:
Es scheint so als das Forum immer deutscher wird. Liege ich damit richtig?

1. It means "Welche Sprache sprichst du?", or "In welcher Sprache redest du?"
2. If I would know, what "impression" means, I could also translate it.
I don't know German, but I tried with a translator..
I mean which language you USE here.. not which language you can speak. So what is the right translation?
I have "impression" means that "it seems to me"

Translation (dn't know if it's correct, but it does have the same snese):

It seems as if the forum is turning more and more german. Is that correct?
PS: Kann einer der Mods das bitte übersetzten und in meine Post einfügen?
Danke
PS: Can one of the mods please translate that and paste it into my Post

1. Changed the poll.
2. Edited Parker's post. No, I'm not babelfish, this isn't a permanent service.
3. Would it be okay if I added "both enlish and german at a similar rate" to the poll?
Angryminer
Thanks, Angryminer and yes, add that to the poll. I forgot about it :go:

Vielleicht wird das Forum immer deutscher weil es das Forum eines deutschen Publishers ist. Aber du hast recht. Was denkst du, was man machen könnte? Soll jetzt jeder Englisch sprechen? Ich denke es wird dann für einige jüngere Leute schwieriger zu verstehen sein.
Maybe the forum is getting more and more german because it's the forum of a german publisher. But you're right. What do you think can be done? Shall everybody speak english now? I think then it would be harder for some younger people to understand.
EDIT: What I'll do in the future is using english and german. I'll write the english sentences italically.
EDIT: Was ich in Zukunft machen werde: Ich werde die englischen Sätze kursiv schreiben.
No, I have NOTHING against it
I'm just making a poll... nothing more
PS: I was used to the fact that it was mostly english when the main game was KoH, then other SF games were put here and most of players are Germans. I'm okay with it, really. It's natural
I do speak English just as well as German (I'm bilingual). If there is a post in German then I answer in German and if there is a post in English I answer in English. If it's something of general interest (like here) I answer in English too because almost everybody in Germany speaks English well enough to understand. I keep it that way in real life too, it happens to me often that I don't remember if I read a certain book in German or English or which language I used to write a paper...
I don't think the forum is slowly being "germanized". But it is true that there is a high content of German posts here. You also have to consider that a lot of the younger German people around have not had that much English in school yet, so they may not be able to understand everything and translating can be a pain too if you just want to say what you are thinking but are not sure how to translate it.
I really don't like programs like babelfish. Languages are too complex to be fed into a machine and translated (at least it's not possible now). Almost always there are different ways to translate something and not every word has just one counterpart in another language. Also the grammatical structures are too complex. You are bound to loose at least a bit of information. But then, if you don't know the language you are reading something in, you'll really have no choice.
But there are quite a few people around here who do speak both German and English pretty well. I think anyone interested in reading a German topic can just ask for a translation and surely somebody will translate it.
Here is a great website for translating single words or phrases, it gives you a lot of options to find the right meaning and you can click on the words toread a definition of it:

Your lucky catt for being bilingual.
Best example for babelfish is the thread "How does your wine respectives celebrate?!" But now it's "How do you celebrate christmas?" Thanks to the mods.
I'm using LEO.org (http://dict.leo.org/ende?lang=en&lp=ende&search=), too. Sometimes I use the Google-Translator, but I don't really need it. My english is good enough I guess

I write in both languages, maybe I would write more in German, if I would participate in the Anno1701 forums, but as a matter of fact my PC is too slow for this game...
So I stay at the less active KoH-section, where I try to be active in both languages, and here in the OT-part of the forum...
I'm under an inpression that the forum is more and more germanized. Is it just my impression or is it true?I had this impression, too. I merely post in English forums.

I think the forum's getting more and more german since Paraworld and Anno 1701
has been affiliated (is this right for "to let in a new member"?) into the sunflowers forum.
You know... german publisher, german developers.
I don't post in english threads so much, because I'm afraid of missing the topic and making to many mistakes :/
Ich denke, das Forum wird immer deutscher, seit Paraworld und Anno 1701
in das Sunflowers Forum aufgenommen wurden.
Ihr wisst schon... deutscher Publisher, deutsche Entwickler.
Ich poste nicht so viel in englischen Threads, weil ich immer Angst hab das Thema zu verfehlen und zu viele fehler zu machen :/
I usually post in the language in which the whole thread is. As I can understand both English and German, it's not a problem, but of course it's kind of a pity if someone can't take part in something just because they speak a different language.

I'm writing an english test tomorrow, so it's better if I stay here in the english threads

O.K., little tip: It's English
Well, Elvain your impression seems to be correct! The community is becoming largely German. I am sure you have noticed the order in which the sections were listed in each game section has been changed to list the German sections first, ahead of the English sections, and it had been the other way around. This was done because the activity from German users is greater than the activity from English users. (There are not many{if any} English users that spend as much time here as I do!)
And I remember the days when English was the only language allowed to be used! (I am sure Elvain remembers that as well).
And what's your opinion about that?
I'm not so long on the board, but before 1701 was released, there was a bit more english than now.
Or a bit less german
I would say, that in a few months, the german will be less, because Paraworld and 1701 are a few months older.
And then i guess, english "feels" more than now.
And what's your opinion about that?
My opinion about which part of my post? Any certain part or as a whole?
I think that if there are more German users then the German section in each game forum should be listed first!
The fact that English ceased to be the only language allowed to be used in the forum, I have no problem with that! I understand why it was that way in the beginning, they were tapping the fan base for ideas and suggestions for the only game being discussed here at the time, "Knights of Honor"! Since that fan base was spread over many countries, they restricted the discussions to English because of it's universitality, so that everyone participating in the discussion would know what was being discussed.
As the game entered final development stages and the sharing of ideas became less needed, we became a bilinqual forum with an English section and a German section. Other game forums were moved here and then other games went into production and their home was made here! All is good and great! I love the many facets this community has, I would not want to be missing any one part of it!:sunflower:
