Going to spend the day at the local high school stadium. Our high school (American)football team is playing State Championship game. Last time we won state championship was 53 years ago, as far as that goes last time we played in state championship game was 53 years ago.
American football is somewhat like Rugby.

I mainly made that comparison for those that know nothing about what American football is.

It is now 5 1/2 hours till game time, it is raining and cold, but stay away from the game? Never!

Our team was defeated 27-21, we actually beat ourselves fumbling the ball on the 10 yard line setting up an easy touchdown for the other team. It was the only turnover in the entire game.
I am still very proud of our team they played hard and gave the other team a hard earned victory. This year they went were no other football team in our school has never gone they won 14 games, finished 14 wins and 1 loss(tonights game). No other year has there been 14 wins, the 1952 state champions only had 12 wins.

My weekend was a horrible weekend, early Sunday morning my parents home caught fire while my Mom and Dad were getting dressed for church. My dad was upstairs and my mom was in the back of the house. The fire started in the den between them, Dad went out the front door and around to the kitchen and opened the door and called for Mom. She responded that she was coming, then he saw her crawling through the flames. He reached and got her hand and helped her from the house, then drove them to the hospital. They are in Augusta burn center in the state of Georgia in the US. Dad is being released today, his burns were minor. Mom has 3rd degree burns on 50% of her body(from the waist up), she is in critical condition and has a long recovery ahead of her(if she is able to recover). I ask that any of you that are praying people, please pray for them. Dad's name is Malachi, he is 71 years old and Mom's name is Anita, she is 70 years old.

I hope that they will be well,
I will pray, "but your story sounda like from a movie",

my grandmum is in hospital after difficult cancer surgery, but dr. gave her only very little hope, she is 82 and the cancer is in last stage,
I hope she will carry this bargain honestly till the end of her life on this earth.

Dobber, that's really awful! I do hope both your parents will be fine and recover fast (and have a new and better house soon)! And so is for Mirco's grandmum (except the house, of course)! :go:

And for lifting the mood up a little, I'm having a holiday of my own today - it's Nikulden and thus it's my namesday, one of the biggest namesdays here (after St. George's maybe). We'll be having some fish, traditional food for today, since St. Nicholas is patron of fishermen (and bankers). And usually on namesdays you don't invite guests, but the guests come to visit you by themselves, so if anyone of you has a way around here... Btw on the 8th is our Student's day (my first one as a student), so it's quite full with holidays for me this week...

Actually, here it's Sveti Nikola (but I qualify for it, cuz Nikolay is the Russian form of Nikola). St. Nikolaus is on German, I think.

Are Nicolaus and Mikulas the same names?
In Slovakian calendar we have Nikola (I suppose this is Nicolaus), and we have Mikulas....

BTW our premiers name is Mikulas, but he is not in any case Saint..

One name could have many versions in the same language. F.e. Ivan and Ioan are the same name, but with different versions. Ivan is more modern (and I think it's borrowed again from the Russians), while Ioan is the old Bulgarian name. On English it's John. Or my name - Nikolay, in my first village (the Shopluk region) is Kolio, while in my other village (Pirin Macedonia region) is Kole. So I guess Mikulas and Nikolaus could be the same name...

Thank you Mircoslavux and Traveller for your words of well wishing and prayers, I know a little more about what happened now, a candle exploded and set fire to nearby furniture that had polyurethane foam stuffing and that stuff ignites and burns like gasoline. Dad is fine but Mom has a long road to recovery. Mirco, I will pray for your family and for your Grandmom's comfort during these last days.

yes thanks Dobber,
I saw somewhere, if you water the burning polyuretane it will explode and the effect is the same if you add fuel into fire,

I hope your parents will do well, they are still in relative good age.

Sveti Nikola or Nikoljdan. The biggest slava. It's said that half of Serbia celebrates St. Nikola, and the other half are their guests.

Haha, I always knew we're brother-nations (here's pretty much the same, although Gergiovden is a bigger namesday holiday)!
Btw, I don't know for Catholicism, but all major Orthodox saints are patrons of something (i.e. modified divinities). As I said, in Bulgaria Sveti Nikola is patron of sailors, fishermen and bankers. Of what is he patron in the other countries?
