Yes, I know who they are, but... Uhm... They couldn't have given you the Cyrillic alphabet, since it wasn't yet created at that time. Cyrillic was created in Ohrid by their student St. Kliment of Ohrid in the name of his teacher (Cyril) after his death. And Cyril and Methodius themselves created the Glagolitic alphabet, which, as far as I remember, was still used officially in Croatia till somewhere around the 19th century. Oh, and btw they're patrons not only of all the Slavs, but of whole Europe. Pope John Paul II declared them Patrons of Europe, together with St. Benedict, a few years ago.

Yes you are right, the official name of alphabet was Hlaholika (in Slovakian), but I'm not now sure, it was improved or change to Cyrilika?!
e.g. accoring the name of Konstintine was named one University in Nitra (University of Constantine Philosophus) http://www.ukf.sk/,
Nitra is one of the oldest city in Slovakia and was the residence of princ Pribina (who was defeated by Svatopluk) before the founding of Great Moravia).

Here is something about the Cyrillic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrillic) and the Glagolitza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glagolitic_alphabet). As you might see they're quite different, but officially Cyrillic is a derivative of Glagolitic.
Btw, unfortunately, we don't have (afaik) universities of the St. brothers' names. The Sofia University bears the name of Clement of Ohrid, their student. That's the university, where I want to study.

Thanks for useful links, last time I have learned history in gramar school - 12 years ago, so I have forgotten some facts.
by the way: It was interesting Slavian meeting in the castle of Devin by Bratislava connected with declaration about Understanding between all Slavian Nations yesterday. I read it in todays newspaper.
nice day

This is maybe interesting for you:
Prince Rastislav I stood out as an efficient and wise lord. To put an end to the aggressiveness of the Eastern Franks, he attempted, starting in 853, to establish an alliance with the Bulgars. He resisted several military attacks by the Franks and, in 855, challenged the huge army of King Louis the Pious at Devin and, in 857, even conquered Duke Carloman and established, in 857, a peace treaty with him.
The same Devin as the meeting yesterday and the same Devin as the historical place of Slovaks in 19. Century
I have some points about COnnstanthin Philosopher and Method and their mission. Most of people in Czechoslovakia were and still aretaught wrong.. but I will clear it in history thread

I plan on going going out to party, and I hope I can, because my knee still hurts (dancing with damaged knee isn't that funny... ouch!).
My knee hurts because I had a motorbike-accident on the 25th of June when some car nearly hit me on my side of the road (I evaded and then fell). Nothing broken - neither bones nor motorbike. I was lucky that I wore my motorbike-jacket and gloves even though it was 34°C hot...
So I hope I can do something entertaining this weekend. :go:

Bah, what's going on with all the Germans here getting hit by cars? First Webbi, now Angry... This is some conspiracy to get rid of the Admins and Herolds here! HappyAdolf, is this yor job, so that you can spam as much as you want?
Angry, I hope the knees already good enough. Dancing can wait, the health's more important!
Elvain, I have some points about Cyril and Methodius's mission, too (not mine actually, of some other historians), but it may sound too nationalistic, so for now I'll keep my mouth shut. But I placed the history thread in the DMZ exactly because of such things, so...
oh, I hope your knee's gonna be ok soon, Angryminer.
Dancing is VERY important (depending on who will you want to dance with )
oh, I will have big familly party - about 20 people will be in our house celebrating that my brother has finished his sturies of Archaeology finaly agter 6 years

My weekend plans stink. I get to have my wisdom teeth removed on Friday [ ] and then I get to spend Saturday thru Monday camping with my family, and two of my mom's sisters and their families!
Dancing is very important to a young man, it is the prelude to other adventures!
