maintaining walls doesn't cost anything I think, I know it's random , but you could give nations with several provinces a moral bonus of 10% when defending their towns , in the beginning of the game

Then why Doux said it would the nations enter in economical paralysis?
Maybe because they cost upkeep in most mods. However, you can't have negative town income, and I made that small upkeep in my mod.
but I don't know why you talk about walls when the reason of economical paralysis would be high upkeep on MARSHALLS.
Upkeep on 2 marshalls is incomparably higher than upkeep on 15 fortified towns (at least in my mod)
Also somethin that might be changed in you mod elvain:
Fortified towns have moral bonus, because the people feel safe => happier.
wooden wall : +1 moral, Stone +2, etc.
I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough.
I think bigger countries should start with more than 1 marshall to avoid smaller countries to quickly conquer border provinces.
Also, other thing that really pisses me off is the starting devellopment of most cities. Why ta heck only the most important cities like Rome or Constantinople start with a stone wall? If most cities would start with a simple stone wall, the game difficulty and realism would clearly improve.
Extra marshalls at the start cost money, which would give a negative income.

Oooh, marshalls, then you're right, one marhsall in the beggining is enough, but more fortified towns are essential.
But that's easily done. In defs\economics\town xyz.ini and town uvw.in2 you can change Rome's start buildings and you can change the commonness of buildings. Note that I didn't know the names anymore, so I filled in xyz and uvw :p

After getting completely burned out on R:TW and the BI expansion, I decided to try this game as I'm a huge fan of the era, first impressions are really great! I'm still in Learning Mode, from playing and from the great posts on this board, thanks.

I think it's a wonderful game. Certainly one of the top 10. I have advertised it on another forum and everyone who's posted in the thread has said "This looks great, I wonder why I haven't heard of it!"

yes, it's typical reaction when you mention Knights of Honor anywhere else than here
PS: where was it?
Lack of promotion is sad. It can ruin any game

It does work for me Elvain. Try again, and if no result, try searching for it in google and then clicking the link there. Somehow that helps for my pc to find some pages..

KoH has bad AIs
yes, the link worked when I tried it second time, itīs ok, now, thanks
I played Alpha Centauri again after a long pause and that makes me sad..Alpha Centauri's AI is overwhelming - why has KoH such bad AI's!?
I like Knights of Honor, I really do. Itīs got some approaches that I havenīt seen anywhere else, like the random distribution of resources, armies needing supplies :go: , or the limited building space within cities - limited resources in almost every field, as a matter of fact, from court places to provincial units. You have to do a lot of planning that way, do you want to build the fortifications, or do you rather want to build the market? Do you take spearmen into the army in case you run into cavalry, or do you rather take some more archers? Another marshal or rather a spy? Thatīs the part I really love. And the strategic map is a real piece of art.
However, thereīs also some things I donīt like that much. For example the resource-gathering book/piety part. All knights but the marshal totally lack personality, gather books, techīem up, thatīs it. Dito the kingdom power, collect faith and gold, click, the people are happier. Same goes for assimilating and converting provinces. It spoils a bit the otherwise rather complex management, almost like a last-minute solution because there was no time for something more elaborate.
The battles are another part, too. I love the Medieval TW battle handling, their units look like crap, but the handling is fantastic and honestly better than the one in Rome. I donīt mind the KoH battles that much, the graphics arenīt that bad (though outdated for 2006) but the fact that I canīt even rotate the field makes them somewhat of a pain, I always have to guess about the terrain. They also lack features like drawing up decent formations, or, as mentioned, a skirmish function for ranged weapons and more diverse units, not only for different nations but also the different eras. I like the sieges, though. No automated turrets raining death on my troops while the two or three men defending the castle cower in the castle center ;). If the AI only didnīt always pull their units off the wall and thus give my archers free reign
I donīt think Iīve played long enough yet to make a really founded assertion of the strategic AIīs quality, so far it looks ok for me. Or perhaps on normal difficulty it behaves somewhat more reasonably? I wouldnīt know. Then again, I also donīt think the Rome strategic AI that bad, the diplomatic part is just damned intransparent. So, I guess Iīm a bad judge there.
All in all, Iīd call it a good game, not without potential for improvement, but not totally bad either.
