I agree with your last sentence. Not without potential for improvement (lots of potential in fact! ), but not totally bad.
Now that I've seen more game, like Eruopa Universalis II, I know that KoH is not unique or completely new and has borrowed many things from other games. However, it is a good game for sure - I just keep on playing and modding it.
I liked the game, but in battles, my archers started tu burn down houses not enemies.

You clicked on the houses then, not the enemy ^_^
With NUMPAD "/" you can see 'through' houses and walls.
I like Knights of Honor, I really do. Itīs got some approaches that I havenīt seen anywhere else, like the random distribution of resources, armies needing supplies :go: , or the limited building space within cities - limited resources in almost every field.
However, thereīs also some things I donīt like that much. For example the resource-gathering book/piety part.
I donīt mind the KoH battles that much, the graphics arenīt that bad (though outdated for 2006) but the fact that I canīt even rotate the field makes them somewhat of a pain, I always have to guess about the terrain. They also lack features like drawing up decent formations, or, as mentioned, a skirmish function for ranged weapons and more diverse units, not only for different nations but also the different eras. All in all, Iīd call it a good game, not without potential for improvement, but not totally bad either.
I dont think there is any thing unique in this game at all. I haven't seen random distribution of resources else where but that is quite a bad thing in the way it is implemented; fertile land in Scotland, brine deposits in Ireland; ridiculous. Kingdom power based on piety and gold? Hello what medieval age are we talking about? Limited building space was there in Slitherine games e.g chariots of war. Also in War and Peace. Armies needed supplies in Celtic Kings.
Fixed view of the battle map ruins the battles. Even games in 2001 had this facility of rotating- even zooming closely to action. Moving formation is not easy either and you can't give general commands like advance, fall back etc.
All in all this is a game worth playing but for a limited period only especially in absence of a difference making, reshaping patch its life is about to run out.

Bought the game recently and like it, great game, really really good. Reminds me of the old Koei Romance of the Three Kingdom games.
The one thing which is starting to grate on me though is the AI of enemy units. When you see a rebel unit in your lands they don't attack an undefended castle, they go for a farm.. and not the farm right next to them, but the farm on the other side of the province. Same with enemy marshalls, they don't go for the throat like a human player would, but for plunder, every single time, rarely the easy plunder either, and it feels almost like an exploit.
Could anyone tell me if there are any must have mods out there or fixes that address this?

Try Elvain's mod. Of course I would recommend my own, but since that one's not really finished yet.. :P
Many people find that Elvain's mod makes the game 1. Better (province names etc.) 2. Harder.
Completely "fixing" (improving) the AI is not possible though. We can only give the AI such advantages etcetera that they are a match for human opponents.
just a little explanation of why does the AI plunder before attacking the city:
1) rebels need to collect some experience before they attack the castle
2) AI kingdoms are mostly in need of money and when you plunder you recieve some nice amount of gold coins so it helps your economy.
In my mod when you are at the start of the game and play as small kingdom with no trade goods, plundering in war is the best way to earn money
With complete realistic AI, the game would be a pain in the a** .
When you try to maintain a large kingdom and your marshalls are abroad, and every rebel army goes immediately for you cities, you would lose many provinces.
Elvain or doux, is this possible:
- your province has a "town guard building" and 4 squads of peasants stationed in the town.
rebels spawn and they immediately begin to raze the countryside.
It would be cool if your army ( peasants and town guards )would automaticly attack the rebels ( you can't control this army , except when you have a marshall in town , he has to attack manually ). When you win, they go back to the town, gaining no experience. If they lose, you lose all squads and 2 peasants ( above your town) disappear to train new town guards ( automatic) ,
WHy this option would be cool:
- It is realistic
- So you can focus on conquest instead of internal conflict
That wouldn't be possible. That's an entirely new feature, which we sadly cannot implement.
The town guard building is of course already there, and the town guards wil spawn in a town assault as you already know. But an army marching out of the town..no
uhu
but a second patch could do :hello: ( hint * hint )

:hello: let's have some action here
hi all. please tell me where and how to create a server for "Knights Of Honor" or how to join any Clan. I play this game quite well and i want to play it online. please if anybody can help me reply to my mail: zura55@gmail.com
Here's a few tidbits:
1. You can't play multiplayer Europe so all you'd be doing online or in a clan would be fightign battles, which isn't very fun to me.
2. The computers are computers, and therefore you may think you are and be very good, but many other human players are too.
3. I don't really know the benefits of joining a clan, seeing is all you would do is battle, unless that floats your boat.
Still up to you, that's my say.
This is the best game ever, I hope there will be realeased a similar game based on Ancient and Cainozoic ages also. It's so realistic and true, just too much politics.
But what really bothers me is that there is no Lake Peipus, though it's quite big and a great battle was held there in 1242.

Actually the geographic interpretation of europe is just loosely related to the real world. Especially the provinces are sometimes far off from the real provinces.

I think the politics are what make it stand out from other games...I got really bored with games like AOE, cause after a while all you did was build up massive armies and attack, which got ho-hum after the first few times...would really like to be able to play the whole game online..

I agree to mesmiff. The politic parts are a good thing. They make a difference to other games.
Playing the whole game online is possible, isnīt it??? You just have to install gamespyarcade or something like that. Then You can play it, when itīs installed.

You can say that again :go: I think the same thing, actually that is in my "top 5" games I will never forget (with games like "Empire Earth 1" and "Fable:The lost Chapters" for example)!
