the newspaper's apology was fast!
but newspapers are not government controlled ... so there is normally no need for an apology as a nation!

this is one misunderstanding of western societies in the arabic world.

The Webmaster is right, and even if Fogh went out an made an apology, I for one doubt it would have any real effect. I believe the protests doesn't concern the drawings as much as they did before. The radical muslims, whom we all know doesn't excatly love us "western's", have found an easy target in Denmark. Would they have done this if it was the US? I doubt it, but I agree that this conflict need to come to an end, if doesn't do anyone any good...

And btw Heretic, before you start on the; "these caricatures were only made to insult", or what ever you intended to say, you need to understand the danish culture... We danes are light hearted people, we make jokes about everything - and I mean everything. I totally agree with the fact that these caricatures were a mistake, and the editor should resign, but! These drawings represent much of the danish humor, we simpel do not take things seriously, and many people fail to understand that we do not intend to mock them. In reality, this case wouldn't have gone beyound our borders, if the "imam's" hadn't shown the drawings in the Middle East (and some drawings were fake too!)

Hehe, we have probably very close humor to you then.. I would post here some pictires from one czech magazine with very nice satiric comis.

The problem is, as I said, misunderstanding. Muslims can't understand that you have such sense of humour, especialy that you make jokes ALSO on religion. And we do not understand what did they want at the beggining.

What is happening now isn't actualy about the pictures but rather about anti-European/anti-Western protest.
Now it isn't in hands of normal moslems but radicals. They now got an excuse and will do what they do untill someone stops them...they won't stop themselves

I thgink the way could have been that the author or the redactor would ask some expert on moslem values and would do an apology that was satisfactory in moslem system of values.
I would compare it to someone asking today for another Holocause and whan some anger emerge, he would say, sorry it was just a joke. Who would believe him? we would ask for some gest showing he really does not mean it such and that the apology is true and honest..

it's difficult indeed ... why didn't publish the "jylad post" (<= correct?) the jesus drawings? so, there was a "goal" to achieve.

but to the muslime now respect our values if they burn flags and destroy buildings? many of them were build to help in the first place.

why should we now care about there needs anymore now?

the radical arhus iman has some guilt in this, too! because he showed on his trip other drawings, too, which weren't published by the newspaper!!! (darius mentioned them as fake)

// EDIT
now sweden may come into the fokus! a right wing party publishes more mohammed cartoons via internet ;(
this may become even bigger. human rights vs. religion the clash of nations ;((

As you said if there were also caricatures of Jesus, moslems would understand it little diferent. But the only sense of Jesuses caricatures would be to calm moslems down, as the reason of Mohammeds caricatures is clear.

I know, I was just trying to explaining the danish humor, since it's a very important factor, in the discussion.
The funny thing is, the editor of Jyllands Posten (that's how it's spelled Webmaster ) and his stab, had asked an expert on muslims, how they would react on the drawings. The expert told them that they were hold a potiential international crisis, but they still choose to publish them. Honestly, I can't see why they keep him at the newspaper... also, as he recently told the press that he was going to publish drawings concerning holocaust, and was told off by the board, I pretty much expect him to out of office. Who knows, maybe that could ease down the tensions a bit..

i think the point of no return is far behind us ... the cartoons were just a "smoking gun". now on both sides the radical parts want to make the crisis even worse ;(

when do people actually start using their brains?

It seems that most of the hate was really induced by imams, using pictures that weren't even from that paper. Some countries and regimes really fare well under these circumstances.

It's more like a way to offend other people.
It doesn't get any message across. It doesn't express anything. It's just offending.
Thus I don't like the shirts.

This doesn't mean I support the reaction in any way. I just also don't support these offending shirts.

I don't agree with you, angry. I don't believe it's offending, I think it's making fun of this entire situation - cause the only thing I'm able to do, when thinking of this conflict, is laugh..

Btw, if I didn't make myself clear, I've had nothing to do with number 2 and 3, and concering those shirts, I would support you, angry - they might create more turmoil than peace..
