whether or not president Bush is a good presiden i think this depends on the point of view ie. to Americans he might seem like a good president, but to quite a large portion of Europeans he's quite "annoying" - i can atually not remember if i have met someone who's pro Bush and a european at the same time !

no offence to U.S. residence but i think President Bush is milking this Iraq incident way too much...it's done, now move on....but he keeps talking about it and using it to his advantage to gain votes...I don't think he'll be in for another term...

Something went wrong with the USA... I don't know when, but there's something severly wrong with USA, and 911 wasn't the cause.

Hi Angryminer

I think that the problem started when the America became the only superpower ie. after the fall of the iron curtain they are the only superpower left and this could have meant that the wold would have been a safer place to live, but as long as America insists on having this wierd foregin policy - like their continuing support to forexample Isreal against the palestines then the rest of us will have to more or less fear for our lives.

The 9/11 attack didn't "just" happen because someone who woke up one morning and decided that they hated America. I also think that although it was a terrible thing and never can be justified, America can blame its own arrogance and foregin policy for that it happend.

The key to a safer world lies in the middle east whether America likes it or not.

I think you speak for most of us Henrik... history wants to teach us a lesson, but as always we refuse to accept it...

I want to make so many comments about US foreign policy and this 'war' on 'terrorism', 'freedom', 'democracy', extreme exploitative capitalism, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and every other hypocritical and unjust policy spread by the American administration throughout the world, but that's a can of worms I probably shouldn't open here.

Whether we like it or not, all Western administrations (including Canada) are quite guilty of immoral and destructive acts. America's war on terroism is a wonderful example of this. The US decided to wage war instead of analyzing its own faults in foreign policy and making some positive changes to address them.

Henrik is right that the key to 'western safety' is in the Middle East. Western foreign policy however, is responsible for violent acts taking place all over the world, not just the Middle East. Sadly, those policies have often resulted in destructive and bloody civil wars. Unfortunately, the US in particular only takes great interest in anything when it's interests are threatened. I think the key to a 'safer world' lies in the Western countries themselves, particularly the US, not the Middle East/Africa/South East Asia/Latin America. Most acts of violence against the West are because of what the West has done to these people...

I don't think it's that simple. history has also taught that dealing with tyrants by destroying them works as well- Jefferson decided to attack the Corsairs and won a fight against pirates- terrorists in essence, to ensure trade in the mediteranean.

I really don't see Saddam's government as so great a regime to defend.

But neither is the Bush "regime" one I would defend. Fortunately we get a chance to kick him out here soon and make a real change... how was anybody to kick out Saddam?

The real mistake the US made was to not finish the first gulf war- however our economy at the time would have been broken in half, I think, had we gone on and tried to restructure Iraq. It costs a lot of money- money I don't see any other countries besides Japan contributing in any meaningful way. It is only due to the economic boom we had during Clinton that we (the US) are even in a position to TRY to spend all this money in order to assist a thoroughly corrupted society back toward a viable way of treating its own people fairly.

The problem is, no matter which one we vote for things won't change all that much. It doesn't really matter which is democrat and which is republican because they always cater to the big businesses that donate millions of dollars to their campaigns, and they'll always do everything they can to block third party candidates from getting their voice heard. US companies will continue to move to China/Taiwan, the US unemployment rate will continue to rise, gas prices will continue to rise, we'll constantly have a flawed foreign policy sticking our nose where it doesn't belong, and everything else that's gone wrong will continue to only get worse.

The same can be said of Canada, though in a smaller way obviously.

It's a quite sad prediction you have there - one must always hope for the better - but i also have to agree ( unfortunatly :( ) that things wont get much better even if John Kerry should win the election, because then he would have to chance U.S foregin policies almost over night IMHO, and that ain't going to happen.
