View Full Version : Suggestions for the second patch
Multiplayer "conquer europe" mode.
Now I know it isn't likely. But it would be the only thing that would raise my interest in the game again. All other suggested fixes sound fine, but at the end of the day, a KoH without a decent MP mode still is nothing but a sackfull of wasted potential.

Here's a "small" item to be patched:
When you click on the "buildings under construction" button (middle of the bottom row), construction icons appear correctly. But when you switch from Military Buildings to Basic Buildings, the construction icons disappear even though Granary is selected. You have to select some other building in order for the construction icons to appear.
It's not a critical item for me ... but if it's easy to fix, please do so.
A "would be nice" item:
It would also be nice to be able to select multiple buildings, resources, or units and see where they overlap, are mutually exclusive, one is available, two available, etc.
Please change the colour of the Orthodox and Pagan religions:
It's hard to tell the difference between subordinate and independent Orthodox kingdoms and Pagan kingdoms at times. It's even harder when an Orthodox or Pagan province is controlled by a Muslim or Catholic kingdom.
If you already have a Royal Marriage with another kingdom, please continue to show the crowns for any available princes or princesses instead of just a Ring. I have to click on another kingdom to see if there is a Prince or Princess available.
Can you generate and display a "State Diagram" showing all the kingdoms, their relationships, and agreements? It would be a lot easier to see all the factions this way. I'll see if I can create an example to show you what I mean.
nice ideas, Lord_Nick :go:
another of my pieces:
- when your spy is infiltrating other kingdom and finaly gets an oportunity to be hired, the player should be informed.
"your spy, *TITLE* *NAME* has infiltrated royal court of *TARGET KINGDOM*. Do you wish him to be hired as *PROFESSION*?
- Yes/No
This should be due to fact that AI often uses marshalls and you may want to have your spy as something else and once the spy got infiltrated, there is a high chance for him to be caught next time (almost 100% if not exactly) so this way you coul influence it a little

dont know if its been said but sort out the problem with crusaders getting stuck on the prussian coast! not been able to land etc. and when crusaiders capture a province make then christian not the target nations religon cos thats stupid!
when crusaiders capture a province make then christian not the target nations religon cos thats stupid!
The Crusader's capturing the province would not automatically convert all the people to Christianity. Just because a Christian Crusader captured them does not make them christian. The province would still need a cleric to visit and convert the inhabitants. I do think that if your knight is crusading and captures a province, you should get the province!

What he means is that the newly created crusader-kingdom should be catholic.
Currently, when you go to Jerusalem and claim it in the name of god and all christianity your marshall proclaims himself King of Jerusalem and swears fellowship to Allah, creating a muslim state (?).
That isn't quite right this way. The correct procedure would be to claim Jerusalem, create a christian kingdom over muslim people and later convert the people to christianity.

yeah soooo pleeeaaasssseee oh and dont forget AI make harder COME YOU MADE THE GAME MAKE IT BETTER
when you apoint the younger prince to be naxt king and the old prince dosnt like it then he (the older) should take some loyal provinces with him they have the same name as your kingdom but on the political map there called england of Richard and england of william (for ex.) so other nations know whos who
Civil WAR
i know im asking this every where but people ask and ask this is your only chance!
2 ideas.
1) In relation changes religion should play some role.
If the kingdom has diferent religion positive changes are 10% lower and negative changes are 10% more negative
2) when negotiating for a peace new feature:
create vasal state (the one who loses the war creates a vasal state in the province/s bordering on the winner)

Dobber,
I agree with all of your point except the last one.
It would be nice (and a slightly easier game) if your Crusading Marshal handed over any provinces he conquered, but historically speaking, most of the knights in the first Crusade went to carve out kingdoms for themselves: Antioch, Edessa, Tyre (?), Jerusalem.
If someone if going to undertake such a lengthy and risky military adventure, they want some form of compensation for giving up their "comfortable" life. So I think Pillaging a province and then coming home with the spoils, or making it your own kingdom and staying there are good representations of what actually happened..

I have some very imporant suggestions i dont know if you guys already mentioned them but here they are:
the Landlord needs to be fixed he has to be able to give +8 food and +2 for every star he must be able to give a huge advantege when defending a sige no one must able to take your Castle of you have a Landlord there adnd finaly the landlord must increase the population growth more than any other knight that way the landlord will become a real knight of honor !
We all know about the problem that the AI is not strong enough and I think i know how that can be fixed: simply make only the AI's have +20 defence advantege when fighting in an enemy castle but this advantege should not work in AI vs AI get it :go:
The only problem is how are we going to make Sunflowers and Black sea studios to read all of this ideas
I have always thought each and every province should be allowed to have governors. When you assign a governor, he should leave your court and go to the province. Then when you send your governor back to court, he leaves the province and appears back in court.
When you have all 9 royal court slots filled, the "send to court" would be temporally disabled until a slot opens up. If all slots are filled, the only way to get your governor out is to exile him. This change would add more utility to the farmer/builder options.
Besides that, patch should have the AI think more logically and strategically. Have them fight together with two armies more often. Not split up their forces all the time. A top priority on sending reinforcements would help difficulty.
"Hard" setting changes:
+3 morale to all AI armies
half the player "income" from ransom/half the player income from vassal
double the cost of ransoming your knights/double the player cost from vassalage
Add new feature of dowry. When your princess grows up, she must be given a dowry. Depending on Overall Kingdom Rankings, you will have to give more or less to your daughter. There will be several options. The first option will be gold. The larger the kingdom the more the gold will be demanded for her dowry. And if you don't have enough gold this option will be disabled. The second option would be to give her a province as part of her dowry. Any province you give her will be carried with her when she marries. If your king dies before you marry her off, this province becomes your vassal with her as governor (she has a happiness bonus because women rulers are supposed to be more caring for the peasants). The third option is to send her to a nunnery/convent.
For the adult princesses who have dowries (those not sent to the convent), they can be married for purposes of alliances/peace/etc. Unlike in KoH now with married princesses, there would be no more claiming of lands after your king dies. This change would make marrying off your princess desirable, especially if she was given gold for her dowry. It will also open up the option of territorial expansion through marriage, like the Hapsburgs did many centuries ago.
--
KoH should allow women to become rulers of kingdoms. The eldest female is heir to the throne in a kingdom with no male heirs. When the king dies, she becomes the ruler. If she marries, her eldest son inherits both her land and her husband's land. If your queen regent is married, you don’t control her children (the father does). When your married queen dies you lose your kingdom (and lose the game).
By keeping your queen regent unmarried, one of your knights becomes ruler after her death. If the knight was a former prince, then the kingdom stays unified. If he was a hired knight, then the kingdom is broken up with the hired knight being the ruler of a province or two.
This would make you think twice about marrying off your eldest daughter before you have male heirs.
Here is a list of some female regents and their years of reign during the Middle Ages:
Andregota Galíndez of Aragon (922-925)
Onega of Portugal (924)
Mumadona of Portugal (924 - 950)

Berenguela of Castile (1217)
Margaret II of Flanders (1244 - 1278)
Marguerite of Anjou (1273 - 1299)
Joan I of Navarre (1274 - 1305)
Margaret Maid of Norway, Queen of Scotland (1286-1290)

All of those are correct.
Eleanor of Aquitaine was "Duchess of Aquitaine". She was the successor (heir) of her father, William X of Aquitaine.

Do a wiki search on each of those female regents and you'll find out they are correct. There are probably more, it was a rough list I compiled.

almost all of you wrote is wrong:
1) Eleanor was the ruler of Aquitaine. Richard ruled there in her name and since Richard left to the east she was the only ruler of Aquitaine untill her death
2) Richard never was the king of Jerusalem
3) Aquitaine was duchy, not county

Ok I like your ideas Doge but still this is only a patch ...and still the last question remains... How do we make the people from Sunflowers to read all these ideas and comment them and tell us wich ones can they make and wich ones not etc ? :hello:

Just fix the AI please, BSS! Its so crappy. They can never attack with force or direction and have no idea how to win against cities or defend cities.

That is my main problem with KoH too. You summed it up nicely.

I do not know, if it was somewhere (in suggestion)already written, but maby it wouldl be interesing, if we have the possibility to build each village and each port- sea village separately, and it we could build roads (connections) between villages and towns and between tows, these roads wouldl be an advantage for travel and commerce, and our and allied knights could move faster on our built roads...
it is just a small corn in the sack of suggestions.. :go:
I don't know if this idea si more for the patch or rather for something else.
Everytime the kingdom loses it's capital the player should get the ability to chose which will be the next capital
most of players don't know what is their capital, but it is the province which defines kingdom's culture (which nationality will the princes/princesses/knights have) and is the onlyprovince that cannot be ceased during peace negotiations.
Also when a kingdom conquers new province, the player could be asked if he wishes to move his capital to this new province.
Importnant
this definitely Should be included in the patch.
In vanilla when England holds province of Aquitaine, it is english capital so all english knights/princes etc. have french names. I gree having this in the high period, but not in the late (I'm not sure if England holds Aquitaine in the late period.)
- also the option to pick the capital should be in the very beggining f the game.
- I don't know how to make it for the AI, but it would be nice if it will keep it's culture as long as possible. It happens very often that Bohemia conquers one german province, loses Bohemia and the culture turns to German, and there is no way back even if it held Moravia and reconquered Bohamia back. This happens also to other kingdoms.
When they re-conquer their former capital, their culture should switch to capital's culture
