Clerics can gain experience from adopting (converting) populations, right?
I don't know about that...in fact I don't know what adopting the population does...
In any case it is strange that I need 1400 books when 1200 is the maximum? I mean how do you get over the max number? And I really need five star cleric since my Patriarch is just about to die and I don't have a replacement...annoying...

So does anyone knows?!? I am going crazy over here...

They only gain expirience by converting provinces and not by adopting,so if you have a province with diferent religion, order your cleric to convert it, and if he succed he will get a level
send him to convert some province. Clerics gain experience by converting realms.
Adopting population removes nostalgy

So basically I need to convert proivinces so I can have 5-star cleric and a Patriarch?! What the hell?!?!
This needs to be fixed IMO. 5th level for a cleric should 1200 which is max...anything beyond that is ridiculous....
How do you change the cost for 5th upgrade for clerics? I mean which file? I'll fix that myself...

Ok now I solved it. I was using Elvain's mod and he made a mistake. He made it that clerics and spies have 1400 books needed for 5th level which is imposibble since the maximum is 1200. So I fixed this and it will be included in my version or should I say upgrade of this mod. ;)
it was not a mistake.
It was done to make it impossible for "lazy" clerics. I enable it only for 4stars, but to reach 5th star they needed to act somehow, get some experience from action.
You are the only one who found it ridiculous...
I think it's fair. Only orthodox nations need to have 5 star for independent partiarch and orthodox kingdoms mostly border with other religion kingdoms, so you need to conquer only one province with other religion and convert it to get 5star cleric.
PS: if you don't like my mod, you don't need to use it. I haven't asked you to do so.
BTW: What about to stick this thread?

I don't find that good nor balancing. It makes the game much harder and even unplayable for Orthodox kingdoms who want to remain separate from Constantinopole.

Even if I am what do you care? Why such agreesive stance towards me? You have your assertion I have mine. End of story...

What if I don't want to conquer? I mean such thing is just simply ridiculous.

I didn't said I don't like it, but there are certainly some things that I don't like and that I will change and as far as I remember you agreed with it. In any case upkeep for Marshal's is another simply ridiculous example...I mean 8000 gold for 3 Marshals!?!?!!? 36000 for 4-9 Marshals?!?! Thats ridiculous...I don't need to say that I changed that to a more realistic level closer to the original vanilla setup.
off-topic. It is not about original game so it has nothing to do here
this may only mess up heads of people using only original game :go:

Oh no... my head has been messed with. I can no longer function.... self-destruct sequence initiated.....
lol, just kidding.
I think elvain's mod is meant to tinker with the gameplay aspect of the original game, whereby a cleric can in practice, never actually do anything, yet become educated enough to lead the papacy or orthodox. If it were real life, do you think a Pope would ever be hired because he had been studying the Bible for several years, locked away in isolation, without ever doing any actual churchwork? It is highly unlikely.

There is enough for a cleric to do as it is, no need for such change Elvain did.
I'm making the game harder because it is too easy.
When your clerics have no "terrain" practice they can't become patriarchs nor popes...
btw. Finnie if you posted something to me via PM, Ididn't goted. You were by accident added to my iignore list.... sorry if you asked for some help or so and I didn't reply (tonight)
but again and again like to some silly small child. This belongs to modding section, not here!!!
My final statement about this issue is where it belongs (http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?p=92971#post92971)

why dont we leave the final game modding and improving to the staff, eh?
The patch no.2 may be useful here, since the AI could be imrpoved (man this is like the third time im saying this...) or a new game difficulty added. Anyway this is completely off-topic so i sugggest you just react as if my post was air...
The problem is that Black Sea Studios, the developer of the game don't have money now, because they expected better success and bigger sales.
As Frujin, fonder of BSS, said, they need to make money from some other project. It's not worth the work for them to spend their time and money on a game that was very badly sold.
If there was a hope for another patch in horizon of about half a year we would only suggest what should be fixed in the patch. But when there is no hope for the patch no.2 we do those changes by ourselves, just because we don't want to wait for final statement after about 2 or more years which will very probably be: there will be no patch no.2 for such old and unsuccessfull game

Do you really think it was so unsuccesfull?
I'm affraid that it was. I don't know why because I think it was very promissing. But many people said that they didn't know anything abut this game and they were surprised how good it is.
Probably there was poor propagation also in Europe... and almost no propagation in North America(as Sir Turylon said, if he din't know about this forum, he'd never heard about KoH)
How can a game be successfull when gamers don't know about it?
Using the Mod, I also was wondering how to come up with 1600 books to adopt a population of nostalgia of -24! In fact, I can not even make a five star Cleric. I see it was intentional.
Well, I've been making some changes (also putting back all the education toward normal 1000 books originally) since I am not a god gamer, just average and wanted a more realistic AI.
It is just now coming to NA market via Paradox.
I believe the buid AI script needs work and maybe they will put out a second patch. So far, I been making as many building as possible upgrades of each other so the AI will not 'over build' and run out of room.
I do see that using the Mod, I can make the AI to build Cathedrals and University by making trade goods as a requirement. Even if you loose the trade good, the building will still remain there.
I do not know if the AI truly trades between themselves blindly, and by accident, they get the requirements to build a Cathedral, or Unversity.
I would have thought these items would have been apparent in game testing.

Im also surprised that BSS lacks money. I perceived that KOH would be a great success and would bring a lot of income. I find it really strange, that it hasn't been so. Yet you may be wright, that problem may lay in the poor propagation of it, especially in europe, i guess.
By the way, Elvain, i was wondering how to do game modding? could you please direct me (probably the second or third time) to the appropriate part of the forum, where this could be explained further. Actually i think, that i'll have found it by the time you would have told me.
the link is here:

btw it's really not so hard to find it :)
PS: yes, this game deserves much batter propagation than it had in Europe

Here's my question:
Can you convert another kingdom to your independent orthodox church?
