Yesterday we defeated our Czech brothers 5:0 in preheating game front WCh.
Today is revanche in Brno.

Ice hockey? What is that? Oh, I remember, it is that sport that didn't happen here this year because of labor dispute! I guess the US has a team going, I am not sure.

I think this year it will be the best WC in last 10 years. all the best players from Europe will play there and nobody from NHL :lol:
I hope NHL will be never played again and the best european players will stay home...

my favourite is Czech republic, of course.
Slovakia did beat us, true and sad. I don't know how the revenge was, but I am sure that with all players from Russian superliga and yet unfinished czech playoffs (Jágr etc) czech team will win.

But I find very strong concurence in Slovakia and Canada(in this exact order)

11 guys did not play hockey whole season, very similar situation is in USA team.
It will be very hard start for CANADA and USA teams, you will see. :scratch:

I think Czechs, Slovaks, Canada, Sweden will be favourites and a big questionmark about USA, Finland and Russia. :nono:

Maybe we meet Swiss (but I think not this year) and will repeat our standart result SVK: SUI 3: 1 :lol:

Being Canadian, I gotta go with my "home" team, but you're right, a lot have not played this year, but many did play in Europe.

many canadians always play in Europe and to be honest canadian WC teams are not led by NHL stars but by those who play in Europe.
Strange that european teams can be strongly reinforced by NHL stars.

This year it's something else.
Everybody can have his best players as in Nagano 1998 (with exception of Slovakia which had many players in NHL before it was paused) and in Nagano the winners were Czechs, team with the lowest number of NHL players (from ice-hockey superpowers Canada, Russia, Sweden, Czechia, USA and Finland, back in that time Slovakia wasn't yet counted (by others but Czechs who knew Slovakian hockey well) as IH superpower)

It's not number of NHL stars=chance to win
it is much more about building of the team. YOu need to put together hard-workers and heart-players with stars(technically perfect guys) If you follow this key, everybody plays with heart and does all his best, if you have some luck, you can win. But you can't play at home. See Czechs last year in Prague, had everything but played at home :sad:

The team must play like team and not only like individuals. I hope, we can forget the WC 04, because there were some bad bloods in team Slovakia :angry: and then we has played according that.
I said, Canada and USA may have some difficulties on the beginnig of tournament. :scratch: Because as usual these teams are playin better from match to match.
The czechs has no :nono: relevant opponent in the basic group (Ger, Sui, Kaz). But each other team has (e.g. SVK-Rus). What is an advantage to play harder game. :eek:
We will see. So as always one match is the most important - 1/4.

The modus of tournament is as following:
4 groups, each with four teams:
then first three teams are forwarded to two groups (each 6 teams), the games from basic groups are counted (only the one with the 4. th team in basic group is deleted)
then 4 teams from these two groups are playing play of (1-4, 2-3, 3-2, 4-1)- 1/4, than 1/2, then finale and for 3.rd place.
the 4. th teams in basic groups are playing relegation.

so it is important to win at least one match in basic group and you are going further, then win another one or better two in following group and you are qualified for 1/4. And this game is crucial. Who wins, playes for a medal. :hello:

last time czech has win all the mathes in basic group and not lost in following group but lost the 1/4 agains USA. :angry:

We have lost 1/2 again CANADA because of ref. stupidity. :angry:
