very nice map Elvain,
I want to ask, whether the color shadowing (e.g. light green group of provinces dark green group of provinces, has any reason???
I guess yes:confused:

it has, but at the moment it is just basic division into kingdoms like Bohemia, Hungary, HRE, Castilia.. it has no firm logic at this moment, just to show regions of those kingdoms. Bohemia has regions of Moravia, Kladsko, Chebsko/Eger and Bohemia, Hungary is divided into Upper Hungary, Zemplin, Carpathian Ruthenia, Transylvania, Banat, Comania or Temesvár, Alföld, Pécs and Esztergom.

but at this stage on this map it's rather illustrative

btw, right now I'm working on Balkans and Russia.. I hope I'll have it done till today evening...

but I don't expect Balkans to be definite, I hope there will be some notes to it

Any pic? Try with Zahumlje, which is near the shore, and Hum is behind it. Zahumlje litterary means "behind Hum".
And add Soli to Bosna, should be around north-east.
Belgrade should be more Hungary, and Nis Bulgaria.
And if you would post your map, I could give you more tips.

eh? there is a pic. Or you can't see the thumbnail? click at it and it should get enlarged...

So Zahumlje is the where Dubrovnik lies, am I right? I made this part of Dalmatia.

So Soli should be somewhere in banovina of Srebrenica?
thumbnail of detail of the Balkan peninsula:

yet withut description or at least numbers, but I will probably make this when the map is finnished (or at least european part as I will now wait for atlas of the medieval islamic world...

Zahumlje is between Dubrovnik and the river of Neretva. North border is Vododelnice, it's a line between Jadran and Black Sea rivers (don't know how's it's called in English).
Soli should be where you put Srebrenica, and the southern part of Bosna should be maybe split in two halfs, so that it could be shared by Serbia and Croatia.
Also your Croatia looks more like the modern one, rather than medieval one, but better find some Croats for that.

Elvain

croatia is based on division of Hungary from 14th century. I agree that it doesn't look as I expected...

and thanks fro the info about Zahumlje. On the maps I have it mostly covers area of Dubrovnik republic and Hum, but I will separate it from Hum. Thanks

You meant to replace Srebrenica by Soli? Srebrenica was hungarian "banovina" in 14th century, I haven't found nothing about older division of Bosnia.

Also I don't want to completely make up the division of Bosnia on 2 parts (anyway I think it shuold be separate region)

Xuca

Soli is older name, by the city of Salines. Names change through history, maybe put a comment, until XIV century Soli, after Srebrenica (or the name could be changed earlier). Same with Zeta-Duklja.

btw. Elvain you must put Kosovo. Serbia without Kosovo isn't Serbia.

I know. Kosovo is covered by Hvosno (it covers almost exactly the same area) and eastern part of Kosovo is part of Rasina

Better name it Kosovo. I doubt people heard of Hvosno(I didn't).

true, but on the maps I have there is only Hvosno.. since when Kosovo is called Kosovo?

I searched the internet, and it appears that Hvosno is present-day Metohija. So you should probably split Hvosno into eastern part(Kosovo) and western(Hvosno)

great. Thanks :go: I just found Kosovo on the map I used as main source... It was hidden (it is written on a river). Capital is Priština.. or Lipljan. I know that actual is Priština...

Here are maps I used as sources(I don't know if you know them or not  I placed there only those regions I could somehow localize also in borders and that were on both maps...

Mirco, probably I won's as it was not a historical region... thuogh if you have map of the territories he ruled, I could make them even sub provinces of those provinces..

I am not sure about how to call the regions. Mostly it is clear but there are some problematic areas where languages meet, like Silesia, modern-day Slovakia and Transylvania etc.

I would like to call them latin in catholic world, arabic in muslim world and greek/"slavic" in orthodox regions. But that may be problematic (as several regions don't have latin names)

at the moment I try to call the regions in language of majority in that region for most of the period (So for upper Silesia I use Polish names, for lower Silesia I use German names, etc.)

@Xuca, iT's strange, I put there thumbnails from imageshack. Do you use firefox of IE? that may be the problem as I use Firefox...

I use Firefox, but I saw a strange tag you used while I quoted you - [qimg]. Maybe it's that.
And have you considered the capital of Hvosno?

EDIT:It won't show the tag properly! it should be qimg between the []
