I've done a bit of research on the Norwegian flag matter and this search was really hard, but i did manage to find two flags one from around 1014 called The Raven Flag or the Raven Banner (http://flagspot.net/flags/no-raven.html) - Supposedly it was made for Jarl Sigurd by his mother and it was Supposedly used at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.

Here is a flag from 1814 (http://flagspot.net/flags/no-1814.html)
qoute:
The Regent of Norway Christian Frederick (who was the Crown Prince of Denmark) declared on 27 February 1814 that the Norwegian flag was to be a red field with a white cross and the Norwegian lion facing the fly in the upper hoist corner – that is the Dannebrog with the addition of a lion.

I've also found another one from the time when Sweden ( grrrrr ! ) was ruling Norway and it called the Norwegian-Swedish Union Royal Flag (1844-1905) (http://flagspot.net/flags/no-se-rf.html) - if you scroll down on the page you can see The Union Arms ( it's kinda nice ) of Norway/Sweden.

All of this lead to my suggestions for a Norwegian flag:
1. A flag with a raven - like the one from the 11th. century
2. A flag with two lions on a red background
3. A combination of the raven flag and the lion flag - how about two lions with a raven in the middle ?

I think if you would take the Norwegan version of the "Norwegian-Swedish Union Royal Flag" and remove the extra cross in the top left cornor and the symbol in the mittle. The that would make a nice flag fro Norway i belive.:)
