1034 Roman Empire (not the Roman Empire from 31B.C-476A.D)
1157 Holy Empire
1254 Holy Roman Empire
about 1512 Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation
Discussion over these are facts from History writing.guys, according to my central european medieval studies, this is right. Only with one exception. Roman empire since 962

Guys from the HRE , you ve got my support- If they want to create a good game it starts with a good and correct research so HRE it must be - I am liitle pissed off that they forget Flanders as an playable nation too.
I only see it as a minor changement it's even possible to choose the name Eire if you conquered some parts of Ireland. Just another name why can't they ask it if you start the game if you want germany or HRE and the problem is solved and everybody will be happy
Don't see a problem there they can even use the abreviation if the full name is too long

i still hope that we may edit the names ourselves :hello:

Did you even read the post above your original post?
HRE - 1254!
It seems that you are more concerned with your achieving your goals than historical accuracy.

when did the name germany appear?
but please tell me the historical accuracy name(s)! im interested in your opinion!
that post was about the way to HRE.
And not about Kingdom of Germany or Kingdom of the Germans, that has been there right since "they" dropped East Frankish kingdom :hello:

oh - i was confused about the HRE - 1254! It seems that you are more concerned with your achieving your goals than historical accuracy.
So you mean that it isn't historically accurate that the title HRE was first used in 1254...?

There was no such thing as "Kingdom of Germans"...
There was no such thing as "Kingdom of Germans"...
...and no HRE until 1254.
Have we just started our own "Did to - did not!" game here?

Let's look at the options:
1034 - Roman Empire
1157 - Holy Empire
1154 - Holy Roman Empire
1512 - Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation
1871 - German Empire
1918 - Germany
We can't use Roman Empire for obvious reasons, Holy Empire seems a bit stupid, Holy Roman Empire appeared in 1254 but at least it's in the timeline. All other three termsn developed much later. Now which one should be used? To me it's obviously Holy Roman Empire. What is your suggestion except reapeting the same thing all the time?

may i add regnum francorum and regnum teutonicum (attention: no regnum germanicum!!!) for 10th and 11th century for the german parts of the imperium...
in austria we often use the term "the empire". yop, without holy, without roman, without german :) (well easy cause there were only 2: the holy roman and the east roman...)
but again, who cares, its already decided: germany....

Do you want me to repeat myself...?
In this case I can only refer to my earlier posts in this thread. :p

Yeah...I am just in a mood of re-reading 15 pages of ever reapting circle going "discussion" that is this thread. :p

Sure it was. Regnum Teutonicum is known and mentioned since the election of Heinrich I in 919.

yeah but no regnum germanicum.
teutons were a germanic tribe, like alamanni, bavarii or franks.
EDIT
finnelach, mr. fasttype :bday:
Sorry, but that is not "Kingdom of the Germans".
I'd translate that into kingdom of the Germans. Teuton is often used as a synonym of German...
