Perhaps someone has worked on the database. :wink:

here is the way to protect the old values of the board. it will be restored for one week, so that you can provide me a bunch of links to convert this information to the FAQs.
sorry, but we cannot provide the postings to third party coz of the old forum rulez and the german data protection laws.
there is no converter from ubb 5.x to vB3.

so i need volunteers to grab the best out of the old boards!

why we don't keep the old board readonly?
- ubb 5.x is very old and a possible security problem
- just a few people uses the board recording to the server logs
- people looking for help use mainly the hotline or write an email

so the main opinion here is to just delete the old board. yes, it is hard but understandable. but the old board is fine for people who are familiar with it. so the extraction of the valuable information and converting them into the FAQs on support.sunflowers.de is the only way to preserve them.

hopefully you can follow the line of argumentation and accept the decision!

Hmmm... And what about the online backup? ;)

I believe that "Timski's Guide" has already culled the most informative posts from the "old" discussion board.
The only suggestion I have is to save two threads in their entirety
1. "Don't you hate it When?"
2. "You Know You've Been Spending to Much Time Playing 1602......."

Hmmm... What about converting the threads of the old board in *.txt- or *.html-files, compressing them and making them available for download for a certain time? If necessary, only for the old board members (we still have our old nicks and passwords)? The old board is not only yours (I mean Sunflowers), it is also ours: We spent a lot of time and efforts there during the last years, and WE made the content. :wink:

The suggestion concerning the restoration of the board for one week is ok - though it might be possible that for some members this time is too short (e.g. if someone cannot come online as he is at holidays or simply has not the time for doing that during those 7 days). So, maybe we could have a few days more... :wink:

hello everybody!
thx for the ovomaltine ... ;)

@boards
the time window is discussable, i think!
the rights of the post is an other thing. one is for sure, every poster has the right of his own posts. thats the dilema. sunflowers provided the board as service to everyone. everyone agreed to the rules. they give you the right to exchange your thoughts with others. sunflowers guaranteed to not make the data available for any kind of party expect the users of the forum.
thats the problem right now ;( for providing the posts as download we would need everyones approval.
we had a disput about it today ;( it's not the best solution i can offer, i know, but it's better than just get deleted.

@knightly sword
apology accepted. the warning will go away after a while, if no new violations will occur. deal?

@boards: Ok, if the time window is bigger, it would be great. :)

But... Well, I do not want to discuss forever, but I am a bit puzzled by the argumentation that you would need everyone's approval for providing the download of the old board. It was never a closed site which required a special registration and declarations for reading the content; like this board, all postings were provided under the presumption that everyone who had access to the internet could make free use of it. Even if someone would have used the information given there in commercial products like walkthrough books, no special permission would have been necessary - the content was available for free and could be archived by everyone who had the technical equipment for doing that. While reading (i.e. getting the information) was possible without any problems and was not limited at all, only the posting required a special registration process.

So, I am very sorry, and maybe I am too stupid to understand the logic of Sunflower's argumentation, but I cannot see why a read-only archive (if for download or online) should be different from an open or closed board. The rights of the posters are the same...

sure it's a little bit confusing coz it was a public board. but providing the service and giving the posts to a third party are two different things. this wouldn't be the publishing agreement anymore. this is the opinion of my superiors.
and they won't a discussion !

No, I am part of the security here. :secruity::wink:

I really think RobinBanks was talking about the death of our old discussion board when he said 'too late for sorry'. I don't think he was aware of the warning given to you and what you ment when you said you were sorry.

It was a misunderstanding. Let it go. Have another drink.:cheers:
